I'm a big fan of Waziema. I usually go for the food, not the bar experience, but the eating inevitably takes a while and turns into plenty of drinking. There's not a whole lot on the menu (I just noticed the last time no appetizers whatsoever...kind of a bummer), but I've never been let down by the veggie combo and the spicy chicken (or is it stew?). We easily split the two plates between three people. (Each plate is around $10-11.) I love the spongy, sour bread--it seems so apropo for SF. The service is VERY friendly, though it's almost invariably slow. This is the only Ethiopian place I've been to in the city, so I can't really compare it to anything...BUT I've had no motivation to try another, so that's gotta say something. Note: TVs playing sports, a jukebox, and a pool table should appease any bar goers. And hoorah for the hard stuff in the W.A.
