I don't get over to the GAMH as often as I'd like, but when I do, I'm always impressed by the venue and feel about "as home" as one can in a rock/music venue. I went to see Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Fred Frith and was blown away. I haven't had a "blown away" concert experience in years. Most of the time I feel somewhat underwhelmed by the larger venues and their lovely convenience fees for tickets, etc. This show however, was $20 fees included for a more elaborately staged and produced show than I have seen almost ever, and that includes big venues. The sound was awesome for such a complex band, and these creative giants really had the room to shine at this venue. Appreciation to the management and promoter for bringing great musical art to SF at reasonable prices!

I have only been here twice. First time was in the middle of summer and it was soo wall-to-wall and HOT that I walked right out. Then I went to a bday party there this past weekend and it was the same deal- too many people! The music has been accurately described by others. So yeah for dancing it is fun. I personally don't like going places where you have to yell to talk to someone. You have to get way too close to people to talk. The party I went to had a room reserved and it reminded me of a little airport lounge. I would only go here for an event ie bday party never just a night out to go out and have fun and meet people. I probably would have loved this place in college.....
