The museum is much better to visit at night. It's less crowded and more relaxed. And more clubby. The alcohol is a bit pricey, but that's expected. It also adds to the relaxed atmosphere. The exhibits are pretty much the same as day however (depressed albino gator and crowded aquarium). P.S. get there early because line is super super long.

My first jazz club so I'll give you my impressions from a newbie.  Apparently the Blue Note is a very famous and popular jazz club and it certaintly drew a very large crowd.  It's better to make reservations to be able to get in and the lineup starts 30mins prior to the shows at 800pm, 1030pm and 1230am.  We showed up at 10pm and there was already a very large line of people who had reservations.  The line for people who didn't have reserations was on the right side of the club and had much fewer people standing in line. Once entering, you're instructed to find a table and then come back and have someone bring all the coats which must be checked in for $1/article.  We were given some menus of food/drink and our drinks arrived just shortly before the musicians gathered on stage around 1040pm.  The place feels crowded to me and there wasn't much room to be able to turn my seat around and see the stage, they definitely try to squeeze as many people as possible into the small seating area. The checks came about 15 mins prior to the closing of the set and included the cover in addition to all the drinks/food for the table.  I noticed that the 800 &1030 performance covers ranged from $25 to $65 for various artists and the midnight performances were usually much less.  The set ended exactly at midnight and we were rushed outside, due to another performance starting at 1230am. A friend who really likes jazz recommended a bunch of  smaller jazz clubs which he likes that I'll have to try another time: http://www.smallsjazzc..., http://55bar.com, http://villagevanguard...and http://lalanternacaffe...

Bootie is high on my list of Four Places Worthy of Voluntarily Suffering Hearing Loss. Others include Amnesia and a Muse concert....Anyways, Bootie is an unbelievable experience and a mash-up club in every sense of the word. It happens only one night a month. There are a slew of regular DJs, such as Adrian & Mysterious D (A+D), and my favorite - Party Ben. There are others, usually guest DJs from out of town (or state or country). There is the "house mash-up band" Smash-up Derby, which gets the party started at about 11pm. The thing that struck me the most about Bootie is that they dont just play mash-ups, the club itself IS a mash-up! I've never hear of, seen, or been to a club that so epitomizes what San Francisco wishes it was. Here, I saw people of every ethnicity, gender (all gradients...), and sexual preference all hanging out together, drinking, partying, and dancing. They weren't just in the same room - they were actually interacting. I've never quite seen anything like this. It's the dream this city, more than any other, strives to achieve. Without placing too much ridiculous over-importance of the social signifigance of the place (too late...), the club is outright awesome. It's large, it's crowded, there are multiple levels and rooms, it's not hot as hell. Since the songs are mish-mash of pop music of the past 25 years or so, everyone knows the songs, the words, and everything else. Still, Nirvana vs. Micheal Jackson and Smashing Pumpkins vs. TLC are impossible to resist. The drinks are slightly pricy and the cover a tad steep, but this party is definitely worth it.
