by meg c. on I made the mistake of going to XIV twice in a week for the last DineLA week only to NOT get the DineLA menu and get the 11-course tasting menu. Don't make the mistake that my friend and I did my first experience... When asked what 11-courses you want, DO NOT LEAVE IT TO THE CHEF TO DECIDE. I only say this because they will give you more of the lighter fare than the heavier stuff. We ended up wasting a course on their Caesar salad--pointless. DO do what my cousins, sister and I did the second time I went... we opted to do the 11-course and chose our dishes. Get the corn chowder with smoked pork belly. I also suggest the jidori chicken. The beef carpaccio was also a solid choice. However, do not get the lobster pot pie as one of the courses if there are at least 4 of you at the table. I only suggest this because they will charge you an additional $15 per person if you add the lobster pot pie. The cost of the dish is $59--if you have 4 people, you can easily split that for a little less than $15 a person and make your meal 12 courses. That's what our waitress suggested, and we definitely did it. Delicious, gluttonous fun. And another thing to note... they have 50% off bottles of wine on Monday nights. Just something to consider!
by Maurita Willette on I just couldn't justify giving this place less than 4 stars. Our waitress was great, and from 12-8 every single day, ALL drinks are 1/2 price. That makes for a small but crazy $5 shot of Patron, and $2.50 beers on tap. We sat on the patio, so I have no idea what it's like indoors, but it's a bar, does it really matter what it looks like? I prefer my bars dark, because the less I can see the better. On the night we went, there were 4 parties taking place, ranging from birthdays to a fraternity reunion. Here's hoping the frat reunion isn't there when you go.
