by Shiela Occhipinti on Best bar in Philadelphia? That's a stretch. It's dark and there are always a few hipsters brooding at the bar. Also, ever since the PW article, it has consistently been packed with loud, obnoxious kids who look and act like they're fresh out of high school. But the food and Rees make up for it all. The burgers are flavorful and moist sandwiched b/w the most amazing le bus brioche roll. My favorite is the kelly burger. The sausages are perfectly seasoned. I often daydream about the tuna burger. So so good. And don't discount the chicken fingers and fries. I could eat them for every meal. The chicken is juicy and the outside has just the right amount of crispiness. And the (horseradish?) dipping sauce for the fries is like crack. Dip your burger in it and you'll be temporarily transported to heaven. But when you get back to earth you'll realize you're still in a small dark and dingy bar and you need another high life (i'm no beer snob). I only go when Rees is working and he's a total sweetheart. The other bartenders are not quite as...friendly.
by Addy C. on Everyone's 5-star ratings prompted me to see for myself if I would love this sushi place as much as you. I just got back from Sushi House and I can answer in one word -- "yum". The sushi here is absolutely yummy, fresh, ... the kind that melts in your mouth. I came with two friends and we ordered salmon, tuna, soft shell crab, spicy tuna, rainbow, and super crunch. I recommend all. They also have a $45 sushi combo special, but we did our own custom sushi combo which came to $40 incl. tax. Not bad for good sushi. Especially after reading one of the reviews that the chef came from MF Sushi - makes me feel like I got an even better deal! The service was great - maybe a tiny slow ... but they were friendly so it made up for the speed. I mentioned to the host that we were here because of the great reviews in http://rateclubs.comand she was all smiles and appreciative. Go rateclubs! Another thing worth noting is that the restaurant is Japanese-owned & run. Chefs are all Japanese. Worth noting because most of the other Japanese restaurants on Buford Hwy are Korean-owned. I recommend making reservations - the place was packed and the seating is very limited. Sushi House Hayakawa just made my list of top favorite sushi restaurants, joining Hashiguchi, Jr. and Sushi Huku.
by Nicole R. on Grace has everything you need in a pub-- great, simple pub food (the Jambalaya is unspeakably delish and the blackened string beans provide a tasty alternative to french fries), a varied beer selection including many local microbrews and craft beer as well as Belgians (try Orval...) The bartenders are really great. Say hi to Reece and Lulu who play great music and are personable AND snarkastic. It is no surprise that this is one of Fergie's places. It has that smart simplicity that makes his establishments so successful.
