This is a 4-5 star room. I can't believe people complain about the darkness. Exactly how a cocktail lounge should be. But as an experienced martini drinker, I had a horrible experience yesterday afternoon. Ordered my usual Kettle One mart, extra dry. Prepared and served perfectly, sans even a drop of vermouth. Bearly drinkable! There was some weird perfume taste in the drink. I am not inclined to send drinks back, but my wife tasted it and told the bartender. She graciously poured another. Exactly the same. Actually, you even could smell the perfume like odor before tasting it. I picked up a clean empty glass (they keep them on the bar) and did not detect it though. To confirm, I bought a bottle of Kettle One on the way home and made a mart immediately. No comparison, as god intended. My conclusion is the ice or maybe the shaker was tainted. I will go back probably. But if this happens again, I am going to... well, Rateclub!

The Du Nord is awesome because it's an old speak easy. That is why you have to go down stairs to get to the bar because during prohibition the laws forbid bars being street level. It has awesome roaring 20's style, and a lot of great clubs happen there. There is a real dance floor area with seating. It can get a little tight, but it's generally quite good for the city. There is also a pool table, and the lighting is killer. A good place for aspiring PUAs because it has areas away from the loud music so you can talk. Love the Du Nord. Go!

If you know a better Chinese/American restaurant in town, please let me know because this is the best I've had. I know it's not REAL chinese food, but it's always fresh, fast, and delicious. If you go, make sure to order the Lobster Sauce and the Chardonnay Chicken. They have recently added a great Miso Seabass that is light, flaky and delicious. Please do not be mistaken, this is upscale Chinese food, not your run-of-the-mill fastfood pick-up, but it's well worth it. The weekends can be crazy here, but that's why they invented take-out.
