*sighs* I only like writing reviews about places I loved but unfortunately this has to be done. Now don't get me wrong there were some highlights in the meal but unfortunately the lack of food on the plate reigns supreme over the whole night. The cafe/bar itself is a really cool - nice feel with the decor and the fireplace. It is an intimate setting, not very many tables and plenty of staff to go around. The menu sounded amazing! Five course meal, seemed well planned and balanced and truly is the only reason we went to the city for dinner. First course: Duck Confit Ravioli in a chocolate port reduction. It was fresh pasta dough and very under cooked. 2 ravs with nice chunks of meat but truthfully we thought we were eating pulled pork when it hit our palettes. The sauce on the bottom was not plentiful but I think it was good from what I could taste but you couldn't get away from how undercooked it was. Second course: Cocoa nib salad with Hibiscus vinaigrette. Literally mixed greens with cocoa nibs in a lovely vinaigrette with 1 piece of sweet tasty hibiscus. This was the largest plate of food received. Third course: Cocoa butter skirt steak an saffron sweet potatoes - this was the insult and partial highlight of the meal. On the large square plate was 4 pieces of narrow skirt steak with 3 pieces of 1/2" thick sweet potatoes very nicely plated with flowers (see picture). I mean really tho, the main course 7 pieces of food? I understand there is an art as to how much to serve when sending out multiple plates but this was pathetic. There were 8 people in the room and there was not 1 full skirt steak plated between all of us. The meat was significantly over cooked and bc of this was not left to rest as properly cooked meat should and was cut too soon. The result was all the juices bled out onto the plate. This is not to say that the 4 bites were not tasty or tender but the portion was insulting. It was about this point we all started looking at each other to see if we were the only ones who else would be hitting up the drive thru on the way home. Everyone was taken back by the portion size. Now the 3 pieces of sweet potato, delicious! Perfectly cooked (baked) and sweetened just enough. Wonderful. Fourth Course: Artisanal cheese plate featuring pleasant ridge reserve - this was the best pairing of the night. 2 crostini's served with about 8 shavings of a hard cheese - maybe parma or manchego. This was accompanied by a dollop of a strawberry preserve (about a sugar spoonful) and 3 dark chocolate covered almonds. Other than it left wanting more, I haven't a complaint about this dish. Nothing was prepared by the kitchen but the bread and when the chef himself walked the room, it was the one dish all 4 tables spoke of...that says it all. No one wanted to insult him with the other comments we heard about the room. Fifth Course: Chocolate mousse Duo and lavender shortbread. As I saw the dessert's being taken out of a separate walk in, I commented that it would be the biggest dish as I saw large red wine glasses full of mousse go by. Lovely presentation for a mousse. When they were served it was a shared dish with 2 heart shaped shortbread cookies over laced with lavender. The ganache on top was rich and powerful and the white and milk chocolate mousse below was light and airy. A well prepared dessert with the exception of too much lavender on the cookies. The meal was served with a bottle of Rose Moet - not my taste but a nice touch. The meal was $55 per person, coffee or tea was extra. The experience was nice as was the relaxed setting but the meal left you unsatisfied. There were many options or dinner. The bf would have rather cooked, his fillet and lobster which would have been more filling and the meat would have been properly tempered. And for the same money we could have gone to another restaurant for a real steak dinner and had far more than our fill for less money. I have mixed feelings about the dinner but in this case, size does matter. The reviews below are interesting tho and in speaking to the waitress, breakfast or lunch might be the way to go.

Nostalgic for old Hollywood, this is the spot.  The pool area is long and lean lean reminding me of the old ranch style homes.  Marilyn Monroe use to frequently stay in one of the cabanas so it's fun to imagine her lounging on the balcony or watching the splashing from her room while she pretended to read a book. Beware of the elevators. The moment you get on they feel like you just entered a time machine gone awry and you can't help but wonder in your head if you would be able to breath for very long if you were to get stuck.  When you finally get to your floor you will feel the same dizzying feeling as a roller coaster at Six Flags. I don't understand why young Hollywood is intrigued to hang out here. But the lobby is filled with skinny 20 somethings ready to party.  Last night my foot was stepped on by a girl in the bathroom because she was so drunk she couldn't walk straight.  She may have looked thin, but that hurt.  Just as I was recovering my stance another tipsy brunette bumped into me as she was trying to race to the toilet.  Whew. I decided to find the bathrooms on the ground floor where I couldn't help but wonder why a designer went for ultra modern in a classic building. Yes, it was gorgeous but it didn't belong.  I was suddenly reminded of the remodel of the Louvre. Oh, and if you want a great burger be prepared to pay $28 bucks at 38 Degrees or "XX" Degrees.  I can't remember the name but I remember the shocking bill. Overall, something everybody has to experience, once.  Once is enough every 5-10 years.
