by Sean S. on Went to this place last night with some friends as an after party. It used to be called "Pressure", and they've done some renovations. I have to say the renovations are kinda cool and fun. The place is all decked out like a carnival, not the Brazilian, but rather the Coney Island big top kind. In fact I think some of the booths may have been sent direct from Coney Island, or at least that's what someone told me. Another thing I liked was how you walk through this dark hallway, and you're in this dance floor area. But you feel like you're walking through a spooky haunted house or something. One thing I really didn't like those is the gunshots. Yeah, they have the actual shooting ranges, try to hit a bottle, and win a teddy bear, that kind of thing. Works great outdoors, but is DAMN loud indoors. Dunno, kinda freaked me out the first few times. I guess one gets used to it. What else, well they were friendly at the door downstairs, and upstairs... so yeah I'd go back. It's not bad, kinda fun. They also have pool tables, so that could work!
by Nannie Zazula on I went here for brunch and I thought it was pretty good. It's a lovely space and the staff seems to be quite friendly. There are big comfortable chairs to sit in while waiting and I found parking on the street. They do also have complimentary valet but the street parking spot made my day. They also expertly split our check a whole bunch of ways and I appreciated that. The brunch menu had several options that I found quite appealing. I finally settled on ordering shrimp and grits. There were good creamy grits with seasoned shrimp and a bit of a sauce. I enjoyed them. There weren't really spicy and I did add pepper but I liked the dish and would order it again. I didn't try other people's dishes but pretty much everyone cleaned their plates so they must've had something good, too. While waiting for our brunch entrees, we were served our drinks (very good coffee for me) as well as hot beignets. The beignets were good because they were hot but I would recommend abstaining from them a bit because they are filler and they were not the best beignets around. They were a bit thick and chewy and not as light and crispy as some other beignets I've had, and when my large brunch dish arrived, I was wishing I had not had beignets while waiting. That was partly my fault and I do appreciate the seemingly endless supply of hot beignets coming at us. I would return and I would like to try more dishes since I only tasted mine and everything else looked/sounded good.
by Sofia H. on I first visited Bimbo's to see Ratatat with my boyfriend at the time. Although h I acted like a total square, sorry Jack and friends, I actually had a great time looking about on it. The decor was like stumbling into a bar in a forgotten era off a back alley in Brooklyn - fantastic! Bimbo's is a small venue giving an intimate feel with great acoustics. There are multiple bars and if you arrive early enough you can snag a table, there is a two drink minimum for them though. Although the girl in the fish bowl didn't make an appearance that evening it was definitely a great venue to see a show.
