I came here for the Party Chef's Halloween Party and I thought it was going to be awesome, but I was slightly disappointed. The venue itself was pretty nice, as it was very large and you didn't feel like everything was squished up next to each other. Plus they had two bars and two djs, one for each floor, even though the dance floor was upstairs so thats where everyone was. The bouncers there were pretty uptight for the most part. They had the typical "little man" syndrome even though they weren't especially little. They acted like they were real cops even though they were technically closer to guarding a mall. They kept threatening to call the police and have my friend arrested because they were really drunk and stuff, and we were like, "we're outside, trying to call a cab, what do you think we're trying to do, start a rave?" -lame. Otherwise, I don't know how the parking situation was since we didn't drive, but it looked like only street was available. Also the drinks were about average for the city for price, and the people that were there, all seemed pretty chill (even though this was a special halloween event, so the crowd could normally be hella lame, and I wouldn't know). So meh, it was ok. Don't know if I'd go back, but I know I've definitely been to better places.

What more can I say that so many other rateclubsers have not already said about this place? About the only thing I can think of is that, after dinner, I made the declaration that this was one of the most satisfying meals I have ever sat down to in my entire life. This is not a place that serves up 'modern sushi', with dozens of weird rolls that have little to do with sushi. This is also not a trendy sushi place like you're likely to find in Midtown or Buckhead (i.e., nightclub-esque feel). What this is is simply sushi at its simplest, freshest, and finest. I can say unequivocally that this was the best sushi I've ever had, in Atlanta or anywhere else. Since this was our first trip, and in partial celebration of buying a new house, we decided to go all out. We ordered two sashimi plates: salmon and yellowtail. Several pieces of sushi (nigiri): sweet shrimp, striped sea bass, mackarel (Jack Mackarel) unagi, and inari. We also ordered a rainbow roll, and a box roll (can't remember the specific name, but it came with tuna, salmon, yellow tail, tobiko, and some tempura bits inside the roll). I'll start by saying that everything we tasted was super fresh, and just melted in the mouth. While there, I had absolutely convinced myself that they have a lake out back and raise all of this stuff themselves. The salmon (our personal favorite) was so rich and buttery that I could have eaten that, and nothing but that, for dinner and would still give a glowing 5-star review. In addition, the portions are wonderful. When you get sashimi, you don't get a thin slice, it's a sizable chunk. The same goes for everything else -- the focus is solely on the fish, which is where it should be. Everything was also well constructed. The rice stuck together, and if you took a bit of the rainbow roll, it actually stayed together. Sushi House Hayakawa represents the pinnacle of the sushi experience for me. My wife (who is a sushi fanatic) echoed this, also saying it was simply the best sushi she's ever had in her life. This place is expensive (as sushi tends to be), but worth every penny that we plunked down. In addition to saying that this represented one of my most satisfying meals, I'll also say that this is a meal that will stick with me in a way that few do. Not an easy feat when all you're essentially eating is raw fish and rice.
