by Coury R. on Aside from the fact that though you make a 9:15pm reservation but STILL have to wait 45 minutes to get sat on a Monday night--it was a Terrific experience at Tao. The scenery is very chic. Nice lounge music playing on Monday. Great dark lighting with red. The drinks were typical NY pricing... But there were some reasonably priced sakes and wines that we enjoyed. The appetizers--AWESOME. We got the crunchy tuna sashimi and the Jumbo shrimp. Both portions were great. Huge sashimi pieces with a tasty crunchy coating and side of wasabi sauce--YUM. The dinners were the best part, though. Miso Sea Bass--Oh MY! Melted like butta. Such terrific flavors. And the Wasabi Crusted Filet--DAMN was that delicious. A perfect medium rare with the best crust. We LOVED it. As far as desserts go--the bread pudding was the best we've ever had. The chocolate spring rolls were ok--just a fried shell with melted chocolate inside--ehh.

I like the set up because there is an outdoor bar where you can smoke, a middle area where the DJ spins, and another bar on the other side of the middle space. Decor is nice as well. However, the only problem with places like these is the wannabe Hollywood crowd, but just be aware of that before you go and make the best of it. It's always just fun to go and have a good time with your friends and make fun. I've been here twice and both times I've had a hilarious encounter with Mystery from the VH1 show The Pick Up Artist. The first time I was there he was evading other girls and kept coming up to me and trying to spit game. I talked to him for almost an hour because it was just too funny. He said the most bizarre bullshit, like we were written in the stars and that he is so enamoured with me. Also, he said that he could fall in love with me, and vice versa. The second time there, which was over a month after the first encounter, he stared at me and told me he was mentally ass grabbing me..... So, all in all, I've had pretty good and funny times here. haha
