I have been meaning to write a review for this restaurant for about a month now. First off, I love Jazz music, and it pains me that people don't appreciate it as much as it deserves to be. And because of that I literally begged my way to eat here with my friends, because they do not share the same sentiments about jazz music as I do. Oh well. We got there and the band was already playing. The music was loud and some people were even standing up dancing! I loved it the moment I stepped in. It's like a mini Yoshi's (which is near by), except you don't have to pay for the show, and the music is playing while you're eating! And also the bands that are playing are probably local and not big named artists, but that's okay with me. Anyway our server was so nice, we never had Ethiopian food before so she took time to help us decide what to order, even though it was a packed house! I ordered the Doro Wat and it's like chicken in BBQ sauce, but it was spicy and sweet, with garlic and ginger. It was so good! They also come with this bread that you can soak up the sauces and eat it with. The band that was playing, played a couple of covers and brought back some old school Sinatra jazz. But I think their style was more of a neo-jazz funk, because they played their original songs in the end. The band was sweating bullets by the end. And this is why I appreciate jazz because it was real music people can dance to using REAL instruments before everything was computerized beats.  Musicians had to play their instruments in sync with each other, and yeah, sweat a little. They worked hard to produce a sound, and you can tell whether they're were playing with their souls or if they were playing half-heartedly. No melody even if it's the same song with the same instrument played by the same musician can sound the same ever again, unless it was recorded. Enough ranting. Rassela's you have been good to me, I will be back. Overall, I love this place. Maybe even better than Yoshi's. The food was better, the music was just livelier. However, since Yoshi's has the money because of their wealthy investors, the walls in the Yoshi's Jazz club, is designed to resonate the instruments and insulate the sound that literally makes you feel that you're engulfed by the music; so Yoshi's has a more superior sound quality in their club than Rassela's.

Cover 3 is by far the nicest "Sports Bar" I have ever been to. Yesterday I managed to escape from a conference for a nice long lunch and a little football watching. It was Sunday and they have brunch on the weekends until 3pm, so they did have some vegetarian items on the menu. I bought some migas ($8) and a bloody mary ($4). The food was tasty, but the drinks were amazing. The Bloody Mary was effing awesome. Instead of your typical bloody mary experience, they have an actual Bloody Mary bar. You make it yourself! The waitress came back with a shot of Smirnoff and a glass with a spicy salted rim. I saddled up next to the Bloody Mary bar and started pouring random spices and dropping peppers and olives into my drink. I tasted it a couple of times while I was making it before putting the vodka in it as you can make mistakes and just start over with a fresh glass of ice, but they will not replace the vodka for free haha. Anyways, it was the most superb Bloody Mary experience I've ever had. Felt like a science experiment as I was really shooting from this hip and it came out pretty damn good. TVs in front of the urinals is clutch - didn't have to miss that MJD touchdown. This place was crawling with attractive women (at a sports bar - crazy!). I knocked off one star because it is pretty damn pricey - my meal wasn't too expensive, but a burger is $12 or so, which seems pretty damn spensy. The place was also like 60 flipping degrees in there - absolutely freezing - make sure you bring a coat.

"Cordon Bleu?"  Seriously?  Yes, that's what the waitress replied when I raved about the few appetizers that we'd ordered.  The selection isn't big, but everything sounded tasty.  You could tell a lot of TLC (do people use that term anymore) was put into the simple foods that they offer.  Take the bruschetta, which had perfectly ripen cherry tomatoes, topped with some herbs, tossed in really good grade olive oil and basalmic vinegar, served with a creamy goat cheese.  And the warm brie coated with slightly caramelized sliced almonds and a few apple slices, served with crackers and baguette.  Three words.  W O W.... well it's three words if you drag it out and emphasize it. And that's just the food -- the wine selection was extensive and global.  For that evening, they had a South African flight tasting consisting of a chard, a cab and a couple of blends.  Great value for $12.  Highly recommend doing the flight tasting! I'd chosen this place to get away from the noise and crowd of the Pasadena crowd--just north of Old Town.  And it was just that, very laid back, with a little bit of the wine lovers din, and that's it.  Perfect.
