by Carlton Lindgren on We were there last weekend. It is a nice venue. I love the pool outside and the crowd was nice. They had a burlesque like show that we really enjoyed. Dance floor is small, but the venue is big, lotsa walking space and outdoor space. Funny how everyone judges you by how you look in LA..we got invited to a private party/room w/ bunch of losers (excuse my French), what the hell...i did not like that part (which has nothing to do w/ the venue) so left that party to mingle with the rest of the crowd outside. If the weather was nicer, it would have been better but i can see why people like it, good music, good drinks, cute bartenders and people that think i am 24! wee!=) had a great time! Why only 3 stars?... eh, it was not 'fireworks'! and i am eternally in search of fireworks!=)

It has such a unique, historical ambiance, bordering on creepy (in a good way, you know what I mean) at times. The authentically old school factory decor, the performances, the projections on the walls, the Absinthe Fairy. . . Throw a few of my preferred Absinthe cocktails (Death in the Afternoon, or their excellent variation on it, Absinthe '75) into the mix, and I feel like an extra in some art school silent surrealist film. My only gripe would be with the service and management policies, as other reviewers have noted. The first time I was there, I went with a group of six, and I believe it was early-ish on a weekend evening. No lines, but no tables, either. A few of them were taken, but the majority were empty, adorned with "Reserved" place cards. At any other bar or restaurant I've been to, it generally isn't an issue to have a seat at reserved tables or booths until the party arrives. Not so here. Five minutes after taking a seat, we were informed that we would have to get up, as the tables were taken. Okay. So we wander around for a bit, before being approached by a friendly hostess, asking if we would like a table. Sure! She leads us over to one of the "reserved" tables and seats us, before informing us that we would have to spend a minimum of $25 per person in order to keep the table. Umm. . . Could you not have told us this an hour ago? There are six of us, we have had two of your fancy $13 cocktails a piece, I think that should more than cover it. Unfortunately, that was a no-go, and she said we'd have to spend $25 more. Whatever, we're over it, thanks anyway. (OBVIOUSLY we were going to buy more drinks, but it was the principle of the matter! Don't tell me what I HAVE to do, okay?) My advice to everyone would be to ask for a table BEFORE you start drinking, so that you are able to abide by their interesting (insert side-eye here) policy. Handle your shiesty shenanigans, Edison, and I'll give you another star. You know you want it.
