The El Rio is truly one of the finer destination spots in the Outer Mission. I love the El Rio. Upon entry into the establishment you are greeted by a narrow and long room with a long bar on the left and a table shuffle board on the right. This extends twenty five or thirty feet and opens up to an area that houses their pool table. Beyond the pool table is a fantastic out door patio. Indeed one of the aspects of a lounge /bar I hold in high regard is a large and comfortable out door area, and the El Rio has one of the finest. Upon turning yourself around in the patio you will see that there is a second room adjacent to the bar. Here they host bands, DJ's, and various live acts. Friday nights they host the Red Hots Burlesque troupe, the best burlesque I have seen in the city. The crowd is brilliant mix of gay and straight, punkers, locals, hipsters and alternative types. This bar will not host too many Stuffed shirts or skirts, just too far and different from the Marina. I have concluded that with this bar and these patrons that it is one of the friendliest bars in San Francisco. While I am no regular, I have still never met a disagreeable leisure seeker there. The staff is adequate, probably their biggest failing. I find that the staff is not very knowledgeable and can equally be curt or unpleasant as they can be friendly and welcoming. The drinks are strong and on the cheaper side. With the larger size and grand patio, there is rarely an instance where you will not be able to find a little piece of Earth for yourself. The adequate staff are efficient in speed so that you will not go thirsty for long. The mix of people make it a happy and enjoyable place for an evening out, a show, or just socializing and making new friends.

Someone named this bar, "The Greatest Bar," on opposite day. This bar is so ill equipped for people. It reminds me of an 80s bar, but not in a good way. Stay away!
