Went to Philly for a day of sight-seeing. We did the usual, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Also on the list, an authentic Philly's cheesesteak. So naturally the first place we chose was Geno's. Prepared for the cold weather, we ventured to South Philly and waited in line, which was out in the middle of the street, Literally!!! The big neon sign displaying Geno's Steaks is prominent. And so is the smell of steak wafting through the air. They were clearly popular! The line was fast, considering it was a saturday during lunch rush. We pulled up and ordered two steak sandwiches with onions for around $16. The next window down we ordered cheese and "freedom" fries (really? Freedom fries?) in any case we were ready to eat. The sandwich was tasty, steak is cooked well, cheese-whiz was good, not over powering, the bread chewy in texture, which went well with the texture of the steak. This place is good if you want to eat at a place synonymous with pop culture. Their devotion to their political ideals is a bit much, but respected. Good steak! Interesting place.

For those of you only been to California Academy of Sciences during regular hours, I highly recommend giving their Nightlife event a try. It was a very different experience. The museum was a lot less crowded and it was much easier to get to your favorite exhibits. My photos also turned out nicer than those I took during the day. The animals seem to be less active at night. They stayed still and posed nicely for me. The Planetarium and the rain forest exhibit are must see. Make sure you head to the planetarium at least 20 minutes before the show to get the best seats. I have had such a great time even without any alcohol.

Oh, Tequila Rain, you are an experience. I went here more times than I should probably admit throughout college, and yet, I'm sure I'll be back. This is a good place to go with a big group, mostly so you can work in teams to ward off the creeps who may or may not live in the shadows. There's a five dollar cover, and the line can get pretty long at times, but it moves quickly enough. In the winter, there's a coat check that's basically all the way through the club (I still don't understand the concept of this...). The feel of this place is pretty variable, depending on the time of the year. During the school year, it's pretty klassy with all a huge variety of Boston-area kids (note: frat parties are free...). During the summer it's a bit less packed but just as (if not more) sketchy with a much higher amount of guys dressed in excessively tight jeans and American Apparel shirts that show off an awkward amount of chest hair. Regardless of when you go, the people watching makes it worthwhile. Especially around 1:15. If you're a group of girls, you will begin to see the sketchballs start to close in around you. That's your cue to run awayyyy. The dancefloor is pretty big, and separate from the main bar area. The dancefloor has a bar all along one side of it as well though. The drinks are somewhat expensive, so I'd recommend having a few before getting there if you don't want to have a heart attack when you check your bank account the next day. The music is mostly top 40 stuff, with some classic stuff mixed in (ie Journey), but it's neither the best nor worst stuff I've heard in clubs. Beggars can't really be choosers, and since they got rid of the whole Axis/Avalon complex (sadness!), this is it unless you want to go downtown and probably pay a much higher cover. But after one or two times here, it'd be worth it to check other places out...
