by Alexandra N. on Let me just start this review by stating that when I was a kid my dad would take me to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on chilly Sundays in winter and then afterward treat me to a hot chocolate and a slice of pie at the American Diner, a cute little silver car diner on Spring Garden. The diner may not have been very fancy, but at least you could get a milkshake and a patty melt at any time of day. The diner changed it's name at some point to Silk City Diner but things pretty much stayed the same. When I got older, Silk City became a night spot for me and my friends to dance and go crazy on Long Island iced teas. Just recently, however, management decided to re-do the diner to cater to a more upscale crowd. I was disappointed when one night some friends and I were dancing in Silk City's lounge and decided to stop over to the diner area for a milkshake, coffees, and some fries. We were seated in a booth and given menus, but when I asked for a milkshake the waitress looked at me with a smirk and said "We don't do diner food." Really? That's funny, because you're still calling the place a diner even though you got rid of the retro milkshake machine and are no longer serving diner-style classics. Blasphemy!
by David T. on that last time i was here, i think i was 19 and kiss fm used to host it. didn't seem like anything has changed. young crowd, very mix with all ages. i believe its 18+. we were once under 21 and wanted to party like a rawk star. cant hate on people trying to have a good time. if you dont like seeing a younger crowd, then go to a 21+ club. the only reason i came was to see dj atrak. if he wasn't tearing it up, this place would of been really bunk. drinks aren't to expensive compared to the other clubs. depending on the bartender, it can be very stiff or very weak. so this is what im hearing about avalon. they do after hours here where old asian people come to drop and party like their 21. my friend once told me that he saw my dad here. i wouldn't doubt it for a second. he parties like an animal and drinks like one. i drink a lot but i dont think i can ever live up to his standards. hopefully one day we can bump into each other while were rolling ( laughs )
