The Pan offers an awesome view, and conveniently since the sun sets in the West, you'll get a eyeful. Head up stairs to the upper deck and if you're lucky, grab a table right on the edge of the boat facing Jersey. Once the lights go down, this is the ultimate hang out. It's out in the open, and extremely laid back, a great place to meet up. Definitely recommend this place for a different kind of urbanite scene.
by Traci P. on I had to rate XIV at 4 stars b/c I love the decor and the bar. My dinner at XIV however, was solid good food, but there really wasn't a dish that was overwhelmingly delicious. I had the 8 course tasting menu, which had me STUFFED by the end of the meal, but maybe its b/c I don't eat a whole lot in one sitting, not sure. I was especially excited by the Lobster Pot Pie, since I am from the south, and I love lobster! I thought wow, how wonderful must this dish be. When it came out, it was sort of a killjoy for me, sad to say. Again, good, no doubt it was good, but I expected it to be sensational. Hey, maybe I just expected to much. The Beef Carpaccio on the otherhand is another story...it was odd for me. The carpaccio came out with lettuce wrapped in the middle of it. I felt like the wattery, crunchy texture to the lettuce stole the show from the Carpaccio. It wasn't bad, in fact, it was interesting since I've never had it that way, but I felt like I didn't get the full salt and texture of the carpaccio which I love. I guess I"m just traditional. I rarely speak of dessert in my reviews b/c I've never been a huge fan of sweets. BUT I loved the Nutella Custard at XIV. It was perfect. Not too sweet, not too creamy, i loved it. Maybe b/c I love nutella, i dont know, but it was sensational. I absolutely felt satisfied after the meal was over and it had a lot to do with the Nutella Custard. The decor is gorgeous. Its a dark, chic, sexy atmosphere. The balcony is fun for Happy Hour, and now they're doing parties there on the weekends so definitely go for that.
by Tajuana Cowdrey on I could not help but think of Crazy Train by Ozzy - "All aboard....ha ha ha ha ha" - as i approached the Frying Pan....and then the SNL skit 'I'm on a boat' kept playing in my head while I was at this bar....on a boat. -- It's a very unique setting for a bar. NOTE: If you are prone to motion sickness, you might need some dramamine before you come here or just have enough drinks until you no longer notice the rocking! :) It's a great outdoor drinking spot, especially for a group of people or for a date. Perfect way to spend a Saturday day by the water and then watch the sun go down. I had mussels and the fries. The fries were too crispy for me, but the mussels and my friends' burgers were good. It gets pretty crowded, but I was with a big group of people, so I honestly did not notice what the crowd was like and the extremely strong cosmos the bartender was making for me probably added to this over sight. If you are having problems getting a drink at the main bar, go to the side bar in the back. I never once had to wait in line for a drink.
