All my life, I've heard people telling me that you can't get a Philly cheese steak to taste right unless it's made in Philly. And when I asked, they told me that this was the place to go for it. I have to say that I wasn't thrilled. I was expecting to be knocked over by how different the steak was from every other sports bar that claims to have one, and I was not. That being said, Pat's crew across the street were much more pleasant than the crew at Geno's. My group and I decided to split up and try a sandwich from each place. I walked back from Pat's, sandwich in hand, and went to sit down with them (I stopped for a napkin on the way) only to be yelled at for taking a napkin. I figured they were mad because I wasn't a paying customer, so I offered to buy some fries. The guy looked at me and yelled, "No! You got a bad sandwich!" I had heard the competition between these two was tight, but I wasn't aware that their principle strategy for gaining market share involved alienating potential customers. I met my group in the "neutral ground," and I gotta say, not much difference between Pat's & Genos, flavor-wise, but as far as kindness goes, Pat's wins.

Yea, I don't think this place is doing so hot. Happy Hour all day tuesday-thursday??? I think TOO many hours of happiness in one week can dilute the experience a little bit. The place was empty during dinner and the wait staff and bartenders didn't seem thrilled to be there. I went yesterday for happy hour after giving up on getting a table at Iron Cactus (I will boycott for a little while because of this). Anyway, I know my experience here isn't that extensive but for me, a Tex-Mex or Mexican restaurant can be summed up by 3 things: salsa, queso, and margarita. Salsa: pretty good. It tasted fresh, it was pretty peppery, not that spicy, and I liked the consistency. thick, but not too chunky. queso: queso is like by 3rd favorite food so I have to be honest. I'm really not that picky. I would merely rate this queso as passable, but I ate it happily anyway because I love queso. margarita: For many cocktails, I am totally ok with the candy in a glass flavor, but NOT for my margarita. I like really sour margaritas, where you can still taste the tequila a little bit. As you can probably guess, this place did not have my kind of margarita. Actually the mexican martini tasted more like the margarita I was looking for. I hate to write negative reviews :(, perhaps the original location on SoCo is better?

Can I give a place ZERO stars...? I really wish I had read reviews on Roe before I went... WORST PLACE I'VE BEEN TO IN THE CITY as far as Nightclubs go. -They don't honor the guest list. -They don't honor entry prices when you ask. -They aren't organized when it comes to Bottle Service... Isn't that the whole point of paying $300, getting in quickly and good service? -They play HORRIBLE music (way worst then other clubs I've been to). -TINY TINY TINY I went to Roe for a friend's birthday gathering over the weekend and from my list above you can tell I had a horrible time. We arrived 1 hr before the guest list line closed and we moved 2 feet towards the door by the time 11pm rolled around. A friend asked 2 bouncers how much entry was for guys and girls, "oh.. it's $20 for guys and $10 for girls" and knowing how badly we hate paying for entry when we are on the guest list we sucked it up for our friend. When we got to the front... it was $20 for every person... WTF. Then we decided we'd do bottle service because we had a big enough group... well the girl that ran BottleService(yes because it really was basic BullShit) was so unorganized. We bought the bottle... so we should be going in right? WRONG... we had to wait an extra 30-35 minutes while she stood around talking to another girl because she didn't know what she was doing. What's so hard about checking off a piece of paper and letting people in with tickets. To make it worst... the place was crap. The downstairs lounge smelled like musty feet and rotten eggs. The DJ wouldn't play anything BUT Michael Jackson for 50 minutess straight (ok yes, I know he just died, but come on... ) and we even requested different music. Also, the so called "bar" was directly in front of the bathrooms... SICK. The ground room was "ok".. coat service - Great! Horrible trance music for 5 hours... not great. The upper room... O M G... it was so CROWDED that I couldn't even lift my arms. They had the nerve to put a couch so close to the entry that it was bottle necking people from getting in and out of the room. I was definitely pushed and shoved at least 10 times for the 5 minutes I stayed in the room. The crowd of people who were in attendence that night... 80% of them had to be on crack. Gross girls dancing all over each other (great if you like that come to Roe... if not, stay away) and desparate guys stalking those girls all night long. Basically Roe has turned me off to the SF nightclub scene - COMPLETELY or until a SF club decides to play decent music besides your mainstream hip hop and bad 80s mix. I'll just stick to bars and small venues that play real shows or music I'm interested in. Thank you Roe for making me grow up a bit and realize that $20 for a shit night its not how I want to spend a Saturday evening.
