by Tuan D. on Thanks rateclubs for noticing that I'm a regular here after two check-ins. As a matter of fact, I should be the duke! I can't remember how many times I've stepped into this place (and stepped out completely ready to take over the world...or so it seemed). Trunks is conveniently located next to the rest of the gay nightlife in West Hollywood and conveniently place at the start of all my adventures in this part of town. The clientele can be a very odd mix. While predominantly a nest for older men, it is increasingly popular with the younger asian crowd, with most gather in the billiard area at the back of the bar. Don't even try to play a game here if you've only held the pool stick fewer than ten times before in your life. These guys always have some serious unofficial billiard tournament going on. People aside, the main attraction of this bar are the drinks. The bartenders can make really mean drinks, so mean that you wonder when they're going to start pouring the soda water into your vodka soda mix. It's great to know that the workers here are more interested in emptying the liquor bottle than emptying your wallet. With around 4 to 5 bucks a mixed drink, emptying anyone's wallet can be a tough job...so down that Patron shot and buy everyone a round. One of the most memorable moments of my life...got denied entry into Trunks at 1 due to my balance impairment. Yup... Quick note: Trunks can be enjoyable on weeknights when it's less crowded. There's a bartender on those nights (his name is John?) that can make the wildest drinks if you ask. by Susie O C. on Imagine taking shots of vodka whilst trying to make eye contact with a leafy seadragon and then traipsing to the rooftop to view Saturn's rings 15 min later. It doesn't get much better than that, I tell ya. Visitors with their b-days in the same week need only show their IDs to get in free! Non-members admission is just $12. I blew through my cash buying overpriced drinks but I expected this much so is wasn't a big deal. You can dress as you please. I saw people in jeans and dirty flip flops to those in sequinced tops and 5 inch heels. Do you, people. Do you. Now, it may not be smart to be clomping around the museum for 4 hours in chunky heels but again, wear whatever makes you happy. A few tips: 1. Bring Cash & lots of it. Drinks average $8 without tip. 2. Eat before hand. Food sucks and it's pricey. 3. Visit the rainforest room BEFORE you start drinking in excess 4. Go early & try to get tickets for the planetarium asap. (sigh) Good times...
by Tanner Habibi on The crowd here changes from night to night, based on the djs, so its really hard to characterize this place. However, it is usually packed and very loud. If you don't like crowds, you should probably avoid it. The drinks are a little expensive, especially since they are served in plastic cups. But that is made up for by the excellent service of rateclubs's own Miri D behind the bar. The cover is always cheap, and you can always get a cab home. All in all, a decent night on the town.
