Overcrowded and stuffy. They did a good job of renovating the place but this club is way too packed on the weekends and they only play pop music now. I miss the old 1150 from back in the day. The only saving grace is the garden area where you can have room to breathe and mingle with others. The networking events during the week here are cool because you can actually have room to walk around.

Carman's is not for the picky. The absolute best part of Carman's is that there are only four breakfast choices. For everyone out there, Carman makes a baked ham with a coffee crust that is unbelievable. I had that plus the batter of the week, which was fresh corn, brown sugar and cinnamon. It was DELISH. My boyfriend ordered the omelette, which was beet, asparagus, other delicious veggies with blue cheese. While this place does have eggs and bacon and toast and homefries, you can't order them. You can only have what's on the menu. Sometimes it's weird stuff that's on the menu, but you have to be willing to go for it. Rarely am I disappointed.

The Blue Note is the best Jazz Club in NYC. I agree with the rateclubsers who said the whole point is the music, not the food or the drinks. You just have that, 'on the side,' so to speak. And you don't need more than a drink or two drinks, if any, when the music gets you so high. I have seen many great performances here, including Oscar Peterson (several times), Nancy Wilson, and Buddy Rich, when he was alive - who despite his notorious temper was gracious enough to sign his CD and allowed me to shake his hand in his dressing room, upstairs. (Funny story: I hear him say outside the door to his bodyguard, 'what does she look like?' A brief pause. Then 'let her in.') A little 'tip' - if the show you want to see is completely sold out, try to get a seat at the bar. Not too comfortable, but worth it, if you are a total jazz aficionado, like me. If you want a table, and a good one, get your tickets way in advance. You'll have an unforgettable evening!
