Friends from out of town wanted to go to a jazz club so we thought we would try Yoshi's. The ambiance wasn't great. They have this private room that is all glass in the center of the restaurant that is pretty cool. The food was ok. Like all the other reviews, small protions large price. We did fall in love with their shortribs. They didn't need a knife to cut. Really good. Only complaint is that for four adults and two kids (under 2 years old) we were charged 20% gratuity. We paid in cash and our waitress asked if we wanted our change back. We thought that was kind of interesting and an upscale restaurant. We also expected a live jazz band on a Saturday night, not the case.

I went with a group of of attractive woman from work and one of their boyfriends recently. I have to agree with the consensus, the place is definately ghetto. The drinks were kind expensive. However, there were many attractive individuals present and the music was okay. At least one of my friends enjoyed it very much. The decor kinda sucked.. but I liked the fact that there were multiple rooms. Like the place, the people there were kinda ghetto and a fight broke out.. I think I would go there again.

I think this is the newest hot spot in the meatpacking district! Once you walk into the restaurant it's a whole other world. It's sleek, sexy, and mysterious. There's a hallway entering the restaurant with statues along the sides. The restaurant is dark with deep colors of red all around. In the center of the restaurant is a huge buddha, surrounded by water. The lounge area is fill with asian brocade inspired beds. Classic New York trendy, hip scene. The food here is amazing. Wonderful selection of starters, sushi and main dishes. All intended to be served family style. We started with the chicken samosoas served with cilantro yogurt sauce.. They were light and delicious.. and then we had the ahi tuna sashimi salad. Very fresh and light. For our mains, we had the plum braised short ribs with yam au gratin. Meat was SO tender and moist. The yams were so unique and rich. Next we had the miso sablefish. Never heard of this fish before, but it was a fish similar to black cod. Very soft and smooth. It was served over a patty of sticky rice. The crunchy texture of the rice was wonderful. Our last dish was the sesame crunchy salmon. I loved this fish too. Dessert was fabulous. We had the warm fudge chocolate cake with ice cream and I was in heaven. The perfect molten chocolate cake. We also had the panna cotta with lemongrass flavor. It was good, but I didn't think it was silky enough. Drinks were fabulous... Lychee drink is a must...
