by Amanda N. on My new favorite club in LA; it really is like a little slice of Vegas in Hollywood. I wouldn't say Drai's is better than the clubs in Vegas, but relative to the nightclub scene in LA, it definitely deserves 5 stars. The venue is very big and the setup reminds me of XS - plenty of hard surfaces around the tables for girls to dance and couches with bottle service surrounding the dance floors. The music is much more my style - mostly hip-hop, with some electronic mash-up towards the end of the night. There is also a lot of nice outdoor seating and a bar near the pool, which I liked. Overall, I have no complaints about Drai's. The venue is huge, but crowded - even late into the night - so it's very lively. They had LMFAO performing, guys pouring head shots, a decently-sized dance floor, and good music - overall, a lot of fun and I'd definitely come back.
by sarah evan c. on When its good, it's really good. I've been going to el rio from when I first moved to San Francisco. From my first visit I knew the place was cool. The vibe has never felt bad to me. The people are sometimes different than a typical bar you'd seek out (ok, different = older - I know, ageist here, it's society telling me a bar isn't cool if it's not hip. This place has old people and is awesome! Anyway, I've had a few misses but I rarely regret a trip to El Rio unless there's an unsightly cover. Their benefits are great, and it's always a chill place to chill, the outdoor is nice for us smokers and non-smokers to breathe. And when it's great...
by Bethanie Keitt on This is a strange place. David Lynch would feel right at home here. The concept is that this is a swanky place with tremendous views of the City. The reality is that everything is skewed. You notice a pair of well-dressed, put-together older white women. They're chatting up two twentysomething Persian guys. Over here is a plump fifty-year old man is a suit and tie. He's buying drinks for a table of Asian girls who probably have fake IDs. Later on in the evening, all of them will be drunk and dancing to "Jump Around" from House of Pain. I haven't been in over five years, and I'd need to be (a) pretty drunk, and (b) surrounded by persuasive friends to return.
