I always come here for friends' birthdays. I didn't like it much when I went there for the first time in 2009. However, my opinion has changed since then. I read that most people complain about the cover. My friends & I haven't had any problems with that. We only pay $5 reduced admission. Yes, that goes for the guys as well. I don't think they're strict with the guest list because they didn't even bother to check. Dress code is must for the guys, so no sneakers. The drinks tend to be on the pricey side, but the bartenders are very generous - especially to the ladies. The music is fun, & I love going there for the dancing.

That $5 margarita deal mentioned in the special rateclubs-sponsor box above is for real, you know. It's beyond worth it just to stop in for one of those and check out the outrageous decor in here. The appetizers and chips (with 3 dipping sauces! OK, one "sauce" is actually just refried beans. But that's still kinda classy!) are excellent as well. If you want to splurge and order a drink from the regular menu, I recommend the tequila cosmo. For dinner? Meh...everything is $16 but wouldn't win any contests up against $9 entrees at any competing authentic Mexican joint. You pay for the decor, which screams "Velvet Margarita" indeed - some recently laid off set designers had a field day in here. Although I don't know how long this place has been around or for how long it has been so dark and shiny, glitzy, chunky wood, big furniture, mirrors with design...the point is, they went all out, and the place pulls it off.

My first review... This isn't supposed to be a 5-star restaurant, but the food was great. Good "family style" eating. The drinks were good as well. But that's not why we go to ASIA SF, is it? We went for my brother's birthday. We sat at the end of the bar. My brother was sitting right next to the end of the stage. He was petted, rubbed, teased, and generally paid a lot of attention to. The dancers were classic and hilarious. The food and drink were fine, and the staff super helpful. I'd go back... especially if conservative family came to SF for a visit!
