this is probably the 2nd best bar in old city and many people know about it or have it in their short rotation... they have great food, the DJ is usually fun, and the architecture is marvelous. great, appealing service and menu! conveniently located. I would travel far to go to national mechanics, but fortunately I don't even have to!

There is something special about the Repulican. It's dark, if you get there at 1am you are early, it's smoky, the dancers are...average. But chances are if you go, you're already feeling pretty good, so just roll with it. I've met some interesting folk in this place. I once talked to a dancer for a long while about the interesting art of pole dance. She even encouraged me that I, too, could work the pole. She was an amazing dancer. I've met shady coke dudes who are super Disney fans. I've run into old friends, and made some new. The beer selection sucks, and it's expensive for what they do have ($5 Lager or something like that), but at the point of the night you're at once you're there, who cares? I think the Republican is an experience that you should afford yourself. Go, and if you hate it, don't go back. I promise it will be interesting, to say the least.

Ok... I'm sorry, but any place this large that has actual waitresses coming to your table and does NOT take credit cards is ridiculous. I've only been to the Sky Bar section. The elevator is nasty and slow and only fits 8 people. The music is always too loud. The service is slow. but... Their drinks are strong, the view is gorgeous, and there are always random crazies from the hostel to watch. (ie - the group we dubbed the 'gyspies' this last weekend.) If you need a place with a great view for 30 somethings, I'd recommend here but I wouldn't go out of your way for it.
