Best venue in the city, hands down. Three of the best shows of my life have taken place here: Air and Sondre Lerche Pinback Cap'n Jazz So maybe the ticket prices are a bit much (think more along the lines of the Fillmore as opposed to Bottom of the Hill) and the cost of alcohol is near-ridiculous (good thing that two-drink minimum isn't enforced), but in spite of those things, this place is still nearly perfect. Bimbo's is not only a beautiful building, but the acoustics are brilliant. I'm not kidding; the worst band on earth would sound golden here because the room was designed in such a way that the sound is always the star. I also love how usually only two acts are booked, so that I avoid spending half the night listening to bands I don't care about. But the combination of it all -- the low lighting, the champagne served in buckets, the red curtains, the fantastic booker, the Italian mobster feeling that permeates everything, and the sweet sweet acoustics that envelope the crowd -- that is what makes this place ooze with class.

Bait and switch. These guys sent me a promotion in the mail -- free entry for me and four friends all night on one specific night. I went there with my roommate and a friend of his, and we managed to park free on the street not too far away. We got to the entrance and there was no line (we arrived around 1:30 or 1:45 AM) and showed the guy our IDs and then gave him the card with the promotion on it. He tried to tell us some crap about how there was a misprint on the card and that it was actually supposed to say that we had to sign up for the guest list and arrive before 11:30 to get in free, and that we would have to pay the cover. I told him that it said very clearly "free entry all night", and he tried to convince me that the text directly under that said that we had to do the guest list. That would have been almost plausible except for the fact that the text he was pointing to said to visit the club's site and use the promotion code OPERA for discounted tickets. I told him that we weren't going to be paying any cover and it was either we go in for free or we leave. He wouldn't budge and said that we had to pay the cover, and we turned around and left. Then we walked over to some other place that didn't have an ass for a bouncer and we convinced them to waive the $10 cover for us since it was already 2 AM...

Christmas Party I've been meaning to review this since last year. -Great views -Decor was like Moulin Rouge but dirtier -Buffet food was good -Drinks were good and the night's drink of choice = Cable Car -Good time because it was FREE and surrounded by friends Once the party was over at 9pm the soporific old fogies from studio 54 era came rolling in. We promptly bounced to avoid any cougars & panthers from pouncing on me and my posse. I probably wouldn't come here normally, but it was fun to go once.
