by Alvin C. on This is one of my favorite spots to be, I love the atmosphere and decor, it transports me back to the 20s, and I find myself staring at the architecture more than the crowd. I'd be here a lot more frequently if I wanted to spend $10+ a drink every time. But I'm a lightweight so I guess it's not a big deal anyway. Now the crowd... I think since they hired the new star bartender this place has gotten much more scenester, and if you're a girl you can pretty much wear any ridiculous, mismatched or super hoochie outfit and get in. That being said, it's still a unique crowd, a good mix of the outrageous and chill. This place IS expensive, and the dress code is strongly enforced. All in all, definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the LA area.
by Leif Kreese on I like to go here on Saturday night when the dj, more or less is good. The keys to this place (like Fluid on Friday night) is that the bartenders and the bouncers are both effective and nice. Adam, who manages the place is particularly calm and balanced when dealing with any issues. I don't particularly dig the dancing on the bar (shouldn't guys be able to do it as well? Not that I want to see them, but maybe the girls might...then again the girls do seem to like to see the girls up there...). But I do love to dance and (like Fluid) from about 10-12 it's the best place to dance in SF on Saturdays. The security in Rouge is even more important because it does tend to attract some of the neanderthal-ish type men. Groups of women seem to enjoy themselves here but a few girls (2 or 3) often get way too many unwanted advances from dudes who never get it.
