************* REVIEW 103 **************** This beautiful rustic decor restaurant wasn't what I expected. The place was spacious, red walls, modern artistic implied oil painting through out the place. A long bar on the side before enter the main dining room looking to an open kitchen and a mezzanine level. What I love most about this place must be the gorgeous ball lighting drop down from the ceiling. I kept staring at it & counted. It was about 37 balls! Our server Jessica was wonderful to recommend us the dishes & explained to us everything. They have an interesting eclectic menu from Northern Africa, the Middle East & Southern Europe. Definitely love the complimentary samplers of yogurt, olives, & crackers. The yogurt was tasty & I couldn't' stop dipping in it! NORTH AFRICAN -Grilled Hanger Steak with sautéed spinach and Harissa sauce $17 - it's about 5 OZ sliced & sitting over a bed of spinach. The steak was nicely cooked, but the Harissa sauce was a bit too salty for my taste. SOUTHERN EUROPE - Seared Sea Scallops with Endive Salad, Mashed Potato, Dungeness Crab, Mushroom $15 - 3 pan seared scallops was complimenting the crab quite well. MIDDLE EASTERN - Chicken with Almond-Pomegranate Sauce $13 - chopped chicken sautéed, it was a juicy dish, but still a bit salty. - Pita $4 - great to dip in the yogurt! All dishes were under $19, & all veggies dishes were under $10. A great place to sampling a bit of everything from all continents. After 10:30 PM, the place turned to a happening party; that when I left! *** FROM MY REVIEW 2/22/09 **

Make a reservation for a Friday or Saturday night, sit back, and enjoy the show. The staff will be dancing, singing, and some of them will be keeping pace with you drink for drink. It's food, music, dancing, and the occasional close encounter with a belly dancer. As the cumulative effects of the shots of ouzo pile up, Taverna Plaka transitions from a restaurant to more of a nightclub. The DJ switches from Greek traditional tunes to Mediterranean house music, to stereotypical club music. If you want a quick meal or the most authentic Greek food out there, Taverna Plaka might not be for you. Prepare to stay for several hours and hang out if you go on a weekend. It's a fun atmosphere for a group that likes to hang out and party. Order the saganaki, they'll light it on fire at your table and extinguish it with lemon juice.
