Came here on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere appeared to be mixed (straight and gay). The wine was pretty good and I got about 4 glasses for $33. If i lived in SF i would probably frequent this place.... Sidenote: There was a naked guy standing on the street with his underwear in his hand. He only wore a pair of trainers and a skully. before he entered Blush he put on his underwear and covered his bits and pieces.......Only in the castro.

Featured Artist: Johnny Rawls Biscuits & Blues is no ordinary restaurant. The place features Southern cooking and some down home Blues entertainment. Actually, they also feature R&B, some Jazz, Reggae, and sometimes Gospel. All in all, I rate: Food - 7.5 Ambiance - 8 Service - 7 Value - 5 Entertainment - 9 We had some shrimp fritters for appetizer. It was good but a little heavy on the batter. Tasty though I have to admit. Lionel, my date for the evening, had the fried chicken with some gravy and greens. I tried his fried chicken and I have to say... mmm mmm, it was good. I should've ordered that. Instead, I opted for the crabcakes. It was pretty good too. The home made sauce that they served with it was delish!!! Also, with my crabcakes were... are you ready for this? French Fried Yams! and Side Salad. I have to say the Yams and Salad were the main event in my dish. Crabcakes were "ok lang" you know? They even made some kind of mango ketchup for the fries. It was good!!! We wanted to try the jambalaya so much that we ordered that to share too. I have to say... I have yet to taste a better Jambalaya than Adley's. So that was kinda' sad. That little tapa plate of the Jambalaya was $15 and it had mostly peppers, celery, and a whole lot of sauce. We topped the evening with some Sweet Potato Pie. They were single portions and just perfect for each person. It was sweet enough and I thought was very good. Lionel who seems to be an expert on this particular pie this time said... "okay lang." :) We both had 3 Bluesmopolitans each. No, it was not blue... they were definitely like your typical Cosmopolitan - except it's a little sweeter. This drink was a hit! Can you tell, we had 3 each. Hahaa! Johnny Rawls, featured entertainer for the evening was great to watch. Although, I have to admit, it is always tough to watch live shows when you're a musician. You get too critical about everything just like we were. Lionel and I agreed that Rawls should kick his drummer and bassist off the bus somewhere during the tour. The bassist was doing his job. Nothing special. Lots of better bassists out there that can drive the tunes. Drummer, well, let's just say... he dropped a few beats here and there and was sort of all over the place sometimes. He also sped up on some songs and it was clear that Rawls gave him signals to slow down midway through some tunes. Keyboard player was cool, laid back and I'm almost convinced that he is greatly influenced by jazz. The guy was a really great with improvs. Johnny Rawls - I've never heard of him before but he definitely reminded me of one of my favorite blues artist, ZZ Hill - specially when he sang "The Blues is Alright." He just seems like an old soul who just wants to entertain. The songs were simple and fun - and he kept the audience engaged in his whole performance. Overall, I rate his performance a 9. I had so much fun listening and watching him that I completely overlooked the flaws of the band. Yes, I bought a CD. Or should I say, I had Lionel buy me a CD. If you're a slightly serious blues fan :) and would like to have a great time listening to some good old fashioned blues, I suggest you go see Mr. Rawls. --- I think this won't be a complete review though if I don't mention to you that I got distrated a few times during the show because as I looked at Rawls, I couldn't stop but think how much he looks like Joe Jackson (yes, Michael's dad!) Hahaa... We had a great time at Biscuits and Blues. And again, I am rating the entire experience a 7.5!
