by Shoshana B. on This restuarant is around the corner from my boyfriends house and Friday and Saturday nights always looks packed to capacity. We decided to go in and try it out. We had the pizza which was ok, the desserrt was the best thing we had there a warm bread pudding and ice crem, and the drinks were average. Overall the dining experience was bad because it was so loud. The only positive was that the restuarant was large and spacious so we didn't feel crowded at our table.
by Tyron Bocskor on Since moving to SF I've had the privilege of coming here twice, once to see Cat Power and then again last night for a private party. The venue is a good medium-sized venue in what I would consider a decent neighborhood. Some people complain about it being in a bad area but I'm wondering if they get out very much or have seen a city with truly bad areas. Either way, it's easy to get to, has a good crowd of people in it and a bar that serves decent drinks but nothing too fancy. They have recently updated their sound system and have done a fine job. I worked in the music biz for over a decade in NYC and can validate this. The interior is wonderful and something that you often don't see anymore...it takes you to a different era. With the exception of the somewhat beat up stairs near the entrance that lead you upstairs the interior is really nice. I would recommend that everyone in SF spend at least one night in this place. It's a classic that need not be missed.
