Upon checking in I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to a junior suite. I told the girl that I was already booked in a junior suite and showed her the printed confirm I had received from http://Hotels.comAKA Expedia. She told me she would have to check with the reservation specialist, and disappeared for about 10 minutes. She finally returned with the shift manager in-tow who explained that he could do nothing for me, that the hotel had only been paid for a standard queen and because I hadn't booked through the hotel, and I would have to take it up with the booking company. Great! After checking into the smallest room they have (with a shower and sink that didn't drain, a view of the lobby's roof, worn furniture & terrible lighting), I spent over an hour on the phone with the reps at the booking company to no avail. They asked me to forward them the email I had received showing that I was in junior suite, which I did, only for the agent and his supervisor to tell me that they had no idea where the email came from and that they could not help me. They implied that I had fabricated this email confirm and insisted that it didn't look proper to them. The next day my room was not cleaned, and when I called Housekeeping was told that they clean the rooms by request?! I had no towels, because the 2 that came with the room went on the floor due to the plumbing issues. When I called the front desk to tell them I needed towels ASAP they never sent them. Bottom line- instead of either company eating the difference, of what I was told was about $200 total, they both refused to help and ruined my night. Might I add that this was a slow weekend at the hotel and they had a junior suite available. It should also be noted that I spent an extra $1000 at the hotel throughout my two day stay, just at the bars, for late night room service and for tips. I would think that in today's economy they would go out of their way to appease their guests but they do not. Because they have a reputation and a history, they think that this will guarantee them guests forever. Sadly we are seeing the demise of a California Icon.

When I want to splurge on eating out, this is one of the few places my boyfriend and I can agree on. I put up with the noisy, cramped, uber trendy dining experience just to eat a "Delux Burger." Gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, smoked bacon & arugala with a side of sweet potato fries - yes please. That is one freakin awesome burger. And the Banana Split Lava Cake - oh man. What a beast of a desert. It's WAY more than enough for two people...we couldn't even finish it. It's practically the size of a baby. Or maybe a small dog. I think I heard a few "ooohs" and "aaaaahs" from other patrons when it was brought to our table. For everyone who complains that they've had cheaper, better burgers, I would really really REALLY like them to tell me where, exactly, those can be found. Seriously, I need to know.
