by Dorene Kumro on Let me preface this review by saying that I've only been to Cielo when either I've co-hosted an event there or a friend, or friend of a friend, is DJ'ing. I'm either in the door before the place even officially opens and/or are on a guest-list, either way I don't pay to get in and usually have some sort of drink special. Typically, without the above white-glove treatment, I'd say that their cover is way too high and their drinks are priced above what they are worth but the space is decent with a good sound system and it even has a little private outdoor area, which is nice ( except for the smokers - ugh ). So I'd give it 4 stars for when I'm there being treated well and 2 stars for the rest of the time so that averages out to a 3.

by Alexis B. on I say NO to sweaty gross old men! OMG please don't ask me to dance every song when I've said no ten times! Get a clue! I know the people in the swing community aren't this clueless! But then the level sweaty gross old men in the swing community is limited. Also, if you are going to approach a girl to dance with you, don't rub her arm or be all up on her before she even says yes. Assume there are boundries, BECAUSE THEY ARE THERE! Fuck off! I shouldn't have to be protected by my circle of friends. Just be normal, ask, and even if you are old and sweaty, I might even dance with you because you don't have a god damn leer on your face! I also say no to clubs in BFE. I know for people who live in Potrero Hill it isn't so far but any place right next to a freeway overpass to me qualifies as out of the way. There is no AC which is ridiculous. With the $15 cover charge you'd think they would have some installed. But no. The vodka tastes like nail polish remover but on some level I expect that now. The venue itself is great. It's freaking huge, great patio, nice interior. The floor is good and the music is lively and fun. I like the upstairs area the best but again, we need some AC. I know, it's so hard but please baby, gimme a little AC. I'd have to be in a particular mood to come back. I really want to like this place but I just can't justify going all the way out to the states to essentially get leered at by sweaty men all night. Or maybe I just need to be a better salsa dancer.
