I came here once on my birthday without realizing that it was my birthday. Yeah i know, that sounded pretty stupid but its the truth. Anyhoo, the inside of this place looked pretty decent. There was a bar on the lower and upper level but both bars were JAMMED PACKED. There is a patio area with tables where you can smoke or at least I think you can smoke? well I did it anyway. The waiting service here is horrendous. The waitress will take your drink orders and come back 30 minutes later. And making your way to the bar to get a drink yourself is a workout. Verdict - Decent place to go to with a large group. The dance floor on the upper level is O. D crowded and it's like a microwave in there. This place has a lot of potential if they improve their beer selection, made their cocktails a little stronger, and provide better service to the people at the tables. To end on a good note, my waitress' nipples were showin :p

We stopped by here for dinner while showing my bf's parents how much the Northern Liberties has changed since they were last living in Center City (Philadelphia was a VERY different place - we're trying to enlighten them). They had apparently dined at Silk City Diner before and were excited to return again; I had never been here so I was eager to give it a shot, plus *slight cringe* my bf and I had noticed that it was profiled on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" on the Food Network so he wanted to see what the fuss was about. Thank god we arrived when we did because it filled up quickly. Our waitress was fine, but slightly brusque and seemingly uninterested in being there. Whatever, it was a Sunday evening. Among the four of us, we ordered: the Honey Roasted Beet Salad with baby arugula and spinach, oranges, feta cheese, and white balsamic vinaigrette; the Smoked Chicken Quesadilla with caramelized onions, corn, poblano & red peppers, monterey jack and cheddar cheese with salsa, guacamole & sour cream; the Silk City Burger with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and added guacamole; and I ordered a special Farmer's Salad they were offering that evening with mixed greens, green apple, corn, cherry tomatoes, pepitas, seared fish (can't remember the exact type - halibut?), and a fried egg on top with sherry vinaigrette. Everyone really enjoyed their respective dishes. The food was plentiful (but not in that gross dear lord how do you expect anyone to consume that much food?! way) and fresh - if my salad hadn't been so freaking big and filled with protein I might have been able to finish it, that's how good it tasted! My bf plowed through his ginormous burger AND all those fries (managed to snag a few, and MmmMmm, tasty), and both his parents made quick work of the beet salad and chicken quesadilla. I feel like we spent more time ordering/waiting for food than we did actually eating it. The place itself is fun and funky - I can only imagine what the bar/lounge/club area is like, but I'd love to come back and check it out! If the drinks are as good as the food (and hopefully not pricey), then its more than worth a trip!
