I dropped in to Bowlmor the other night after some friends and I got the itch to roll a few frames and throw back a few beers. We were in the neighborhood and jazzed for it, bowling is always a good time whether you are pro or an amateur, in large part to the beer factor. We weren't expecting much, we knew it would be mainly a 22 and under crowd, but it was cold out and we just wanted to roll, damn it. We already had some booze in us and it seemed totally bowlable for one night, without any regrets in the morning. As we walk in, a girl with an attitude was working the door, separating the private partiers from the bowlers. Fine, whatever, maybe that means we don't have to put up with the "high rolling" tools and we can grab a lane quick. We thought there might be a wait since it's in with all of the college kids still around, but figured it couldn't be that bad on a weeknight. We got off on 4th floor alley, saw that out of about 40 lanes, only 3 or 4 were being used. Pretty sweet, right? Practically our pick. Walk up to the counter and request a lane only to be told it will be about an hour and a half wait. "Uh, but there's no one bowling," I reply as I turn to view the tumbleweeds blowing down the lanes. "They are still all reserved at the moment," he replies as he looks over to the packed fluorescently lit, well oiled club. We all stood there a little dumbfounded as if we had heard wrong, staring at some 37 odd empty lanes, trying to wrap our heads around the concept of people going to a bowling alley, reserving an expensive lane only to let it sit bowlingless while they hang out at the bar. I don't bowl often, but when I do the people at the bar are usually those waiting for a lane, not people who are paying for a lane. So that basically makes Bowlmor one of the douchiest places in the neighborhood, which is saying something considering all of the lame college bars that play host to the bridge & tunnelly / touristy / college bars around NYU. I would have contently grabbed a drink and waited happily for an hour or so at the bar had it not been packed solid with all of the douchebags who were paying for the lanes that I was waiting on (now I understood why the girl at the front door was in such a pissy mood, she got to sift through every one of them). Someone mentioned that there is bowling at Port Authority which we all seriously pondered for a moment - if eager-bowlers and eager-drinkers are considering hanging out at Port Authority instead of your establishment while they are standing in your establishment then your establishment probably blows chunks in a whole new form. So after arriving with a full bowling load to blow, we left with unfulfilled blue (bowling) balls.

This is one of my fave clubs in SF. Getting in can be a hassle as you have to be "hand picked" to get in. So you may wait awhile if you dont "personally" know the door guy. But once your'e in, it can be worth it. The people are very attractive, the music is good, the bartenders are cool, but the dance floor is a bit small. I suggest getting bottle service, pricey but worth having your own are to sit and lounge. Ive been to EVERY club in the city including after hours. I recommend this place but be prepared to wait in line. If you can afford it get a VIP table!

The one word I would use to describe this place is, Wack! 4 bottles of vodka could not erase my desire to just leave. The group of heavy women dancing on the mattress next to ours was enough to kill just about any party.... I could go on and on, but the other reviews covered the other points. My mother always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all...
