I've been to Yoshi's in Oakland to see the ever most lovely Goapele perform in 2005. Eating the sushi for dinner and the slow cocktail service during the show made me not want to come back. My recent trip to the Yoshi's in the Mo-Mo changed my mind, they've totally redeemed themselves! I was pleased with the food, I thought everything was delicious. For starters we ordered the Kobe Beef Sushi, Crispy Calamari Skewers, and the Kakiage Tenpura Fritters...yes yes a thousand times yes! For my entree, I had the Kurobuta Pork Belly with a side of brown rice (is it because I'm Filipino?). Juicy and tender...not sure if these are winning qualities of pork belly but it won a place into my belly. The service was aight, the waiter was very friendly...when he was around! A few times he seemed to be m.i.a. He was probably in the back, tending to his John Waters 'stache. We ate there on a Sunday which is kind of a like an open mic night, Songwriter's Sunday, I think? It makes conversation very hard to maintain in the dining area. Parking was great as we just parked in the Safeway parking lot! But this is a secret, don't everybody go doing this now or they might start towin' up! For our party of 8, the bill came out to $352. I'd like to come back because there are other things on the menu I'd like to try, maybe even see a show, only if Jon B. performs.

Not in the best neighborhood. There's no distinct sign outside that says Suite 181. Once you get in, the decor is nice. The bathrooms are cleaner than usual only because they've got someone who watches the bathrooms. The crowd is mixed. A lot of party buses make a stop here, so the crowd is always changing within the night. Music: upstairs - mostly house/trance. downstairs - r&b, hip hop. There's so many people packed downstairs, it's hard to get out to get some fresh air. The smoking section is one of the best (It's huge). I would recommend them to play some music out there and people could be dancing. haha. The ventilation is not too great. They have these big fans to circulate the air.
