dark and sultry. i didn't go to the bar area as my drinks were purchased for me, but i did stay where the dancing was. the place was airy enough, with big fans to cool you down while cutting a rug. loads of tables and seats to hang out and chill. i miss the old octavia lounge, but this new place isn't too shabby.

I've concluded all clubs are total hit or miss, and Hiro is no exception. I've been coming here for a while now, and the experience is different every time. Friday night is predominately Asian, and Saturday's are mix crowd. -- I like Sat a lot more! Cover is 20, but you can get yourself on a guest list for reduce cover. -- (Google is your friend, so look it up) The line is always a hassle. The door guys are usually pretty cool about the guy/ girl ratio BS if you're there before 12, but lately, that doesn't seem to be the case. The last time I came, we had 5 guys and 3 girls and were denied entry and we're there around 11:15. It was raining and we're pissed off and ended up going to The Park, which was no hassle at all. The layout is one giant box, with bottle service seating dead smack in the middle which takes up a lot of the floor space, though there's still a decent amount of space left on the dance floor. There's a stage to the side where the DJ mixes his jam. The music is a def hit or miss, and do they have to play Journey every 2 hour? It's getting a tad bit lame. Oh yeah, there's 2 acrobat flying around which takes attention away from the boring night. The bar moves fast which I appreciate. Only Japanese import beers and nothing else, but I grew to appreciate Sapporo. At least it's always ice cold!!! So, the next time you go and you're denied entry, just walk around the corner and go to the Park. It's no cover, and I'm sure you're not missing anything at Hiro!

Cuba Libre is sure nice looking on the inside. Maybe too bright in spots for a lounge though. I was taking my out of town buddy over to Frank, but they were closed at 10. Being hungry, the quickest option was Cuba Libre. I had an irritating experience with the valet at Dallas' now closed Cuba Libre, but was open to trying the Austin location. Menu had mostly non-Cuban food. Makes me feel like food is an afterthought here. I tried to get my wife to order the Asian pot stickers to settle my Chinese food obligation to her for the week. She saw through it and happily settled on the carrot cake. She liked it very much. My friend and I each had Cuban Sandwiches and shared an appetizer of plantains. All were decent. Sandwiches were very large and with each being split into two triangles could have easily been shared. Neither one of us finished the Cubans and we are both big guys. We weren't ordering drinks and I think that perplexed our server. Nobody else was eating dinner at 10 P.M. Kitchen stays open until 10:30. I'll concur with Dej M's review - music was annoying to me also. I wanted latin music. How about some Cuban jazz? Instead we got late 90's alternative rock.
