One of the hot new clubs in LA, of course by the time you read this it may already be old news. Make sure your group has a positive ratio of girls to guys (not to add the girls better be considered good-looking, not to be shallow but that's Hollywood for you). If its a group of guys I would pretty much suggest utilize the Las Vegas approach and either get a table or pay off the bouncer to skip the line (the 2 guys in front of me made $100 to get in without waiting, considering its $20 apiece anyways I think the $60 premium was worth the considerable wait). Once inside, the place is pretty sweet, there are plenty of bars, beautiful people literally everywhere, it is the prototype for all Hollywood clubs. And sure the girl your trying to talk to is probably a 9 and way out of your league but remember while she may think she's too good for you tonight she's probably your waitress tomorrow at the Cheesecake Factory. If you love going to Hyde, LAX etc when they were the hot spot then hurry on over to the Opera before it gets old. Oh, I didn't see any celebrities the night I went (on a Saturday) but the entire cast of bachelorettes from the Bachelor were there and one of the bouncers told me that Quentin Tarentino was there recently. Who knows, I'm sure a Paris Hilton visit is due.

I only read People Magazine probably once or twice a month whle flying, and whenever they point out what celeb is spotted and where, there's always something about "So-and-so spotted canoodling at Marquee in NYC." So when my friend called and told me we could be on a guest list at Marquee and asked if I wanted to go, I said, "Hell Yes!" Now, I'm not exactly one for celeb drama but the thought of possibly watching Lindsay Lohan have knock down drag out with Jessica Simpson was way too tempting. In all honesty though, I really did want to go to this club because it is a hot spot in NYC right now, and I wanted to check it out and see what all the fuss is about. So we showed up on the very West side in Chelsea and my first thought was, "Wow, this looks more ghetto than Sunset Blvd." But I just giggled as we made our way to the bouncer. Yes we did cut the line and say what list we were on and yes we did not have to pay a cover as we were let in ahead of some people. (This fact is the only reason why Marquee is getting only four stars from me, because on a normal basis, I agree that this line/doorman nonsense is ridiculous.) When we walked in, my friends and I were amazed - at the smallness of the place. Okay, it's really not that small, but I was really and truly expecting a big nightclub. When we went to the bar, the bartenders were prompt, very prompt, and my drinks were great. No cheap rum served here! the decor of the place was actually pretty fascinating, I talked with my friends for a while and we decided that we really liked the set up of everything. We went to the upstairs part for a bit but decided that we preferred to be by the dance floor. The music was interesting - the DJ started with a little bit of Hip Hop, then turned to some 80's, and then went into this random stint of metal, and I was like, "Okay......" The DJ, however, turned back to Hip Hop after a while, but I had a strange feeling about the timing. Shortly before he turned the tide back into the music I like, a random celeb had been escorted in by security and seated right by us. Who was the dashing celebrity to grace the crowd at Marquee? Well unfortunately for me, it was not Lindsay Lohan with her entourage. But, nonetheless, still exciting, it was James Marsden from XMen and Superman Returns. In all honesty, we really had a great time! I really was expecting it to be a crowd of pretentious posers, but it was okay, only a few were scattered about. And other than a little pushing and shoving on the dance floor, we were dancing continuously to the hip hop beats and being silly trying to rub elbows with the celeb possy (that's really not our thing, it was just fun). So here's to a great night at Marquee with great friends! Beware though, go there with a group that has no alterior motive except to have fun, and everyone should have a good time!
