I'd been waiting for 6 months to eat at Bongo's. Literally, I booked my vacation in October 2007 to Miami and set the date to have lunch at Bongo's on Friday April 18th. My family and I walked in and immediately ordered mojito's, everything seemed to be going exactly as planned. Our waiter brought us this warm and tasty garlic bread, I think the bread was the best part of the entire experience. Mr Waiter brought our mojito's over and we ordered the appetizer sampler plate which included Tamal en Hoja - basically a pork tamale, Papa Rellena - a potato stuffed with ground beef, Tostones Rellenos con Camarones - stuffed banana with shrimp, Croquetas de Jamon - some sort of ham. They were all really good. For my entree I ordered chicken breast stuffed with shrimp and two sides; Arroz Moro - rice and black beans and Maduros - plantains. Everything tasted great and half way through my chicken I noticed the outer part of my chicken breast was cooked but the inside was completely RAW!!!! Yes, raw I tell you. WTF! What restaurant gives it's patrons raw flipping chicken???? I promptly informed my waiter and he apologized and only offered give me a free drink in consolation for my raw meal. About 45 minutes after I started feeling nauseous. Maybe it was all in my head but my lunch was coming out of both ends for the next 3 hours. Totally ruined the rest of my day in Miami which I had to spend in a bathroom. I will never be eating at Bongo's again. I'm saddened and disappointed. I did take a few pic's prior to the 'incident' for your viewing pleasure.

Smoke 2751 Broadway New York, NY 10025 (212) 864-6662 From Douglas Schubert "Smoke". On Broadway between 105th and 106th. Legenday live jazz spot. Bille Holiday used to shoot up in the bathroom. Paul Auster based his character, Augie Wren, on a guy who frequented this place. Auster penned the novel featuring Augie right here at the back table. On Mondays and Tuesdays you can see a great trio for the price of a beer. Check out the petite and fiery Akiko on the hammond B3 as she blazes through solos that Jimmy Smith might flip his hat over to. -douglas schubert/NY Press
