The Republican is a magical place in South Philly that will make you feel dirty and violated yet amazed all at the same time. First of all, finding this place is super hard. I only end up here like once a year and I always forget that un-advertised door has a lone small sign that simply says Thursday-Friday-Saturday on the door, alerting you to the fact that it's only open those days after 2am when all the drunks, sketch balls, and hipsters not done drinking gradually stumble in. The interior is awful with a single lone strip pole that is occasionally used by dancers once they're done walking around and flirting for money. There is also a fine layer of cocaine coating the entire place because of all the drug use that goes on. Avoid the bathrooms - it's just not worth it, trust me. It's slightly over priced with shitty beer but really, if you're there then you're probably already drunk and who cares about price at that point? I love The Republican, I really do. No matter who you are, I promise you that you will do something out of character there and have a hilarious story to tell your friends about the time you went to the seediest strip club this side of Washington Ave that will keep them entertained until the next time you stumble in 6 months later. Oh and lap dances cost $20.

Steep cocktail prices (I guess that is normal for NYC) but my geisha cocktail tasted amazing. The interior was breathtaking and I felt like I was somewhere in Europe, underground. The DJ was banging out dope songs. I heard an old school freestyle song and that stopped me in my tracks. Love the Buddha entrance but I am biased being a buddhist myself.

*Review based on club/bar night* First of all, no cover charge for a decent and trendy club/bar in the city? Never heard of this before in Boston! Second, this place was conveniently located only a 5-minute ($8) cab ride from Times Square (where our hotel was). It was my friends' and my first time partying in NYC at legal drinking age, and we came here expecting to dance the night away. The Park did not have much of a dancing scene. For a young crowd, definitely not enough energy and music could have been better. They played some old school songs that weren't dance-able to, but were great "break times" to replenish on alcohol, haha. Probably not the best idea since cocktails & shots were pricey. I would highly recommend cabbing, driving, carpooling, whatever. Just don't take public transportation. The closest stop brought us to a quiet and dark neighborhood that Friday night. And we still had to walk a good distance before reaching The Park ... in high heels! ;( Luckily when we left, we learned that there were plenty of cabs available and we got back safely. Overall, I managed to have a fun time with my friends and we look forward to partying in NYC again.
