If you thought The Franklin gave you lascivious thoughts, prepare yourself for The Ranstead Room, possibly better dubbed, The Randy Room. The walls look like their covered in fishnet stockings, the three paintings of nude women elicit that simple sense of carnal desire, and the intimacy of the room suggests an orgy is but a few drinks away. Snogging aside, Starr brought in the top players to guide the aesthetic and cocktails. Shawn Hausman (conceptual designer of The Standard and Starr's other properties) sets the mood just so, as he did with El Rey. Entrance to The Room is through a dark and dripping alley, but once the doors open, you'll feel transported into someone's seductive digs. Sasha Petraske (of NYC's Milk and Honey and Little Branch) created a simple but satisfying cocktail menu employing the necessary pillars of hand-crafted libations: fresh juice, fresh herbs, assorted bitters, and quality spirits. If you're a cocktail connoisseur, the menu won't impress you; it's not nearly as developed as The Franklin's, but if you're looking for something approachable while still feeling swank, it should do the trick. They also serve vodka, so yeah, not -really- keeping with the speakeasy code. You'll be pleased by the pumpkin seeds over the usual bar nuts and the abbreviated food menu hosts items from the adjoining restaurant, El Rey. Order the gorditas! Well done, Starr, on your secret-not-so-secret slinky saloon.

I recently revisited this venue after not coming here for awhile. They are very well known for Wednesdays happy hour. Lots of fascinating characters still roam this place. The art is generally interesting. The DJ's are very good. Interesting folks to talk to. Met this one attractive character that gave me a 15 minute monologue about why he enjoys his electric blanket than dealing with women. My pal and I toasted him for his creative monologue. Hey 5 stars. He even bought me a drink.
