Coming from a pretty ghetto part of queens, I can say I know authentic tacos. So when I come out to SF, I decided to skip Mission and try this place out for something different. This place is a nice in-between fancy and authentic. You enter a giant dining hall decorated in ornate red chandeliers and big red velvet booths. You order off to the corner your choice of cerveza and tacos. I had to get a Baja taco as they don't sell good ones in NYC. The batter was crispy and perfectly tasty. I was in heaven. The mexican corn on cob was also a treat as they were not skimpy on the cheese and lime. It also has a nice little kick to make that beer work even harder. This place is really fun to go with friends and super spacious so it's great for large parties as well.

My first time to Zahav and decided to go for the restaurant week lunch deal. Wow, the food is amazing!! For $20 you get: selection of four salads; hummus and pita; mezze (tapas type appetizer); shipidum (meat grilled over coals); and choice of 3 desserts. I really liked the hummus here, you could really taste the tahini in it and it wasn't overly lemony or garlicky. The little salads were good but you just get a tiny taste of each. Apps: the stuffed peppers were yum! cauliflower was a bit dry and tasteless..meh.. For the shipidum course we had the marguez sausage and the chicken, both really delicious. Dessert was a super chocolatey semifredo and a pear served with baklava and some kind of scrumptious custard that was just to die for!! The restaurant was pretty full for lunch and service was slow. Everyone around us was complaining. Its lunch, and you want to get in and out fast. Nevertheless, I am forgiving them because the food was so outstanding! I'll be back!
