by Sunday P. on 4 stars because I really dig this place at just the exact right times. I go sort of randomly but with purpose and have never had a bad time. I can see how it could be a turn off though - if you don't like a small crowded dancing space or lots of hipsters or just think it's not as good as the one in NY or LA. Well. This is not NY or LA and if this Beauty Bar were like that, I wouldn't go. This is Austin. It cracks me up that we have a dirty little hipster-laiden hole in the wall with pink glittery walls. The people watching is unbelievable. I had trouble running up a $20 a couple of times (the minimum on cards at that time) even after buying other people drinks. I have been there early to see a few bands (including OK Sweatheart who was adorable) and it was like having a small school prom all to myself. I went for the Michael Jackson tribute and danced on the table in that sunken-in sitting area while watching white skinny boys dressed up trying to moonwalk and grab themselves. I was there during a SXSW event in the tent outside and had a marvelous, albeit sweaty, time. I went there after a company holiday party and ruled the dancefloor with the other 5 people there. It works for me.

Classic environment where the older gentlemen on business trips slip their wedding rings into their pockets. No, keep your hotel number to yourself, and your ear hair is talking to me. Cute lounge areas with lovely views though...so if you really want to come here, do it first thing before any dancing activities. Try midweek for less sweaty bodies blocking the skyline. Heavy out-of-towners on the weekend. Extreme age variances.
