by Cyrstal Missel on I go out a lot due to boredom, so I Ithought I'd check out a DJ Quest show at "The Estate." I'm not sure what the name "Estate" is trying to evoke. Rather than some sort of antebellum mansion interior, I got the distinct feeling that this is what Dracula's Castle might have looked like if he'd been Moroccan and effete. The drinks were way over priced although generous in apportion. The crowd was nicely diverse and broke the dance floor chill early on, although i suspect that The Estate crowd's vigor and enthusiasm was attributable to the Monday night, A-list DJ and that weekends may be a complete cromagnon zoo. On the plus side, they let me in wearing my not very expensive looking clothing and broken shoes. The doorway titan was actually friendly and they gave out some kind of scented soap basket to the ladies upon entry (for equality sake, can't the guys get a basket of beef jerky and soft core porn?). The gentleman at the front even went so far as to wish me a pleasant evening. Whether this was an engineered tactic or genuine, I was genuinely moved. It's this last point that elevates The Estate to two stars rather than one. Despite a total lack of ingenuity in running their establishment, they seem to be on the ball with staffing. Each employee whom I encountered, from the the muscle up front to the bar tender in the back, was exceptionally spirited, professional, and friendly. I'm a sucker for Go Go dancers. Cheers to you Estate for hiring solid people and being close to the T. Jeers for uninspired space and expensive booze.
by Lyn G. on Came for some drinks a little early Friday night, paid the $10 cover and got lucky and got to see the show. Really cool atmosphere, vibe, people. Drinks weren't ridiculously expensive and they serve food. Server was genuinely nice. Didn't see singers or the band, just the "dancers". Awesome. It's like going to a rated PG strip club without the perverts.
