by Antonio A. on Frozen Orange drink and the Fried Peach Pie. Those are my two reasons to come to The Varsity. They're f*cking awesome! Other than that, I haven't really eaten anything here. It doesn't look super appetizing anyway, but I'll probably try eating here someday just because. The Frozen Orange drink is kind of like a Slurpee from 7-Eleven... except it tastes like you're drinking an orange creamsicle. Damn... soooo good. The Fried Peach Pie is the same idea as the apple pies at McDonald's... but a million times better. The peaches taste soooo good. What an awesome idea. This particular Varsity is a downtown Atlanta institution... been there for years. Close enough to nicer areas of downtown, but for some reason Varsity attracts some peculiar characters... some of them are normal families, but some of them look kinda suspect. Makes you raise one eyebrow in a frown... My ATL local friends tell me that there are huge car meets here on the first Thursday of the month... and the drive up counters where you can eat in your car with one of those window trays is kind of cool. You don't normally see that nowadays! Anyways, I can't wait to get back to Atlanta so I can get one of those Frozen Orange drinks at Varsity again. Damn.
by Carin Knoop on I will have to admit, this review is extremely bias. I only go to the cat club for my friend's events. However, I still am able to put forth an honest account for what I feel about this club. Setting aside my friend's events, which always pop off and leave patrons wanting more. I have to say the Cat club is a simple joint to hang out. Let's start with the basics. Good side venue that does get rather packed to the gills. Two separate rooms of music with one small smoking alley, thank god I do not smoke any longer. One room: The entry room or first room is comprised of a nice long bar with plenty of room for drinkers to line up bar side and await a nice drink. They do pour the drinks fair here. This is probably your best spot to get a drink in this venue, as you will learn in a few moments. The first room is complete with a DJ booth which sets high above a section carved out to be a dance floor. There is plenty of room on the sides of the room to sit back and converse, take a breather, or in general people watch. This room splits off to the outdoor "hallway" where smokers can enjoy a smoke or two. This smoking section is extremely narrow. It's a hallway sandwiched in between two buildings. Not my idea place to smoke but all the smokers seemed to enjoy it. Again, I do not smoke so I could care less. However I did manage to go out there for some air, no inns and outs here, and it took me a good minute to get in and out of this spot. The second room is much smaller and has a small bar. This bar gets slammed and getting a drink during peak hours is a game of waiting. Nothing against the bartender though. It's a small bar surrounded with people wanting to get their drinks on. However it is annoying so dont waste your time here and walk into the first room. Bets are you will get a drink faster. This room also has a DJ booth which is about 10 Feet from the dance floor. Not the best place to see what a DJ is doing, hence the 10ft above the dance floor DJ booth, both rooms have similar booths. On a packed night this room is hell to navigate through. It's simply way too small. You'll end up losing half your drink on people, or people will lose theirs on you. lol seriously drink your drink in the other room and then come back here to dance. Overall I like the Cat Club. Its nothing out of the ordinary and I do return once a year for my friends events or to play.
