by Rob C. on 3.5 probably the easiest place to bring out of towners (near meatpacking). no line, no hassle or cover, wide open space thus not too crowded (thus good for bringing your own group of friends). outdoor area, huge is relative but for nyc, makes CA people feel at home. next door is currently "the avenue" and more the strict bouncer type of place but it keeps changing apparently. open till 4. artichoke pizza opening nearby!
by Janiece Tabisola on My boyfriend and I went to TAO for New Years Eve. It was even better than I imagined. It is easily comparable to Buddakan -- but so much better. We sat at the bar for about 20 minutes before we got seated for dinner. It's definitely sexy and a see and be scene place. When we finally sat down for dinner, we were on the upper level of the restaurant. The server was very accommodating and friendly. We started off with the Thai Crab Cakes. It came out as 3 mini crab cakes soaked in this spicy sauce. Very yummy. Then for dinner I had the coconut shrimp. It was one of the best dishes I've had in a while. The shrimp pretty much melted in my mouth. It didn't even need any of the sauce, but that was an extra great touch. It is about 6 jumbo shrimp, bowl of rice and a mini salad. My bf had the kobe beef and tempura french fries) (it was the special that night... only $65!) I can't say enough about it. So tender and juicy. Dessert: Giant fortune cookie. It has chocolate and vanilla mouse in the middle. It was amazing. (And comes with two fortunes, which is cute.) When you get your bill, two more regular fortune cookies are given as a final treat. It is a must have. Where else can you get a gigantic fortune cookie complimented by fresh fruit? Overall, AMAZING. I can't say enough about this place. I'll be back again soon, even if I just stop by after work for a drink at the bar. They also have a lunch.dinner special $38 for app., entree and dessert. Looked great. I may have to try that sometime.
