by Amanda C. on I feel like I owe 111 Minna a 5 star review since despite the fact I've been there numerous times I've never paid to get in and I've always taken full advantage of the open bar at the event I was at. 111 Minna is an interesting space. It is big and roomy with high ceilings but is still able to maintain an intimate feel. The art I've seen has been really interesting and/or cool. The bartenders are really one of the reasons I'm willing to shuck out my 5 star review. Every time I am at Minna it is for some kind of free event and these bartenders step up to the plate. No matter how crowded, how booze thirsty and lecherous the crowd is they always have a smile on their face and can turn out the drinks faster than Hicham El Guerrouj can run the mile.
by Andreas Dimitri on Loca Luna is great for the ambiance, dancing, and fish tacos. The main food menu had a lot of great options, but the food just isn't that good. I've had the calamari, which is average; the ceviche, which is not good; the plaintains - pretty good; and a few other items. The crowd is usually diverse and the dancing really heats up the place. The live band is usually great - I've unfortunately been there on some off nights, but there are more on than off nights. I also have yet to be there and not see a bachelorette party - just a note. I recommend going to the taco stand near the fountain and eating there. A lot of people really like the drinks at Loca Luna, but I'm not a fan of the margaritas - I think they are too sweet, it's probably the pre-mixed factor that leave something to be desired. Try the free salsa lessons, too.
