My earliest memories involve the Varsity. My Dad and Mom would take me and my sister south from Chamblee in our 56 Ford, eyes agog with anticipation. Would we see Big Sam, Flossie Mae, or any of the other legendary carhops? F.O's, chili dawgs, onion rings, and fried pies. Plus, we got to toss crumbs out the window to scads of pigeons. What a time! In high school, we'd slip down to check out the action, and lay some rubber down on the Lunching Pad. Later, I went to Georgia Tech, and my prime spot for late night study fuel was the V. Back then, a "PC" (powdered chocolate milk) came gushing all cold and foamy out of a spout into a jumbo paper cup. Two chili dawgs, fries, and a fried apple pie made Calculus with Steamboat Fulton bearable. Now, it's 44 years later, and I have to be regreased at least four times a year. Now, I want a MOUND of chopped onions on my chili dawgs, and a diet Coke to protect my girlish figure from Frosted Orange overload. Hey, it's an Atlanta thing!

Another Atlanta club bites the dust.... I read over the holiday that Eleven50 had closed down, and now the website is down too. Not sure what the cause for the closing was, considering that the club was hosting its usual crowd and some high profile events as recently as two or three weeks ago. I always had a good time at Eleven50 in my slightly younger days. Through a friend of a friend I always was treated well and got in and out without spending a fortune. The stage set up for acts and events was good,a dnthe VIP loft was a nice place to people watch from. Wish I had gotten around to reviewing it before they shut down.
