I would go back to Mayes but next time I'll make sure the waitress knows that the appetizer comes first, then the soup or salad and then your main course. We are pretty flexible and were were pretty hungry so I didn't really care this night but on a normal dinner out I wouldn't have been happy to get everything at once and the appetizer last. The food was pretty good but I'll try new things next time. I had the salmon risotto which I thought was a bit sour at first but by the end of the dish I loved it. I'm new to salmon but it's totally growing on me. The chowder and halibut my husband had was very good but I would request no mint next time in the halibut (not a fan of mint, it can be a bit overpowering). Another new thing I'm trying is oysters. I didn't care for the Tamales bay oysters but that's just me. They were a bit fishy to me and I didn't care for the vinegary sauces they came with. The ahi poke appetizer was terrible, way too garlicky. It totally overpowered the tuna and it smelled like a bad dates breath (or if your on a date you will be that person if you eat this). I would avoid this, next time I'll try the ceviche. I know this doesn't sound great but I would try this place again, the atmosphere was nice and the people were friendly.

Like everyone else, I LOVE this place. I was so sad when the sushi place in the disco kroger shopping center left. What was that place called? That place was my favorite and I mourned, on the city's behalf, when they closed shop. But Hayakawa more than makes up for it. Too tired to right any more right now but I think the other reviewers have it covered. Just go, oh and know that you will spend some serious cash.

My friend and I made a 7pm reservation last night. Got there on time, and had to wait 15 minutes b/c there were 2 groups having Christmas parties and the bouncer didn't have the names on the list. Even though we had reservations, we had to pay $10 each. Didn't realize it was a "club - club". We had the coconut shrimp for appetizers, a little on the hard side, but was pretty good. The bread was decent, accept the 2nd one I had tasted a little undone. The BBQ Orange Salmon was DELICIOUS! I had the passion martini, too strong and not cold enough. I drank less than 1/2. They turned up the music at 8pm, so by then we could hardly talk w/out yelling. The place started packing up quick, the dance floor was filling up and the DJ started to crank the music. Looks like the party was about to start! Except, I was with a client and she didn't feel like partying. For the 2 of us, total bill was $115+. A little pricey, the place was decorated so nicely, but I don't know about $115+. Come on, it's a club! If it wasn't for the Salmon, I would've been disappointed. Definitely a great place to party and I'll have to remember that. Great music too. A little run down for an "upscale" dinner place/club. You know what I mean? Next time, I'll be ready to dance here. I was a little ticked off that we had to pay $10 to get in and I spent that much on dinner!
