by Sara P. on Been to two shows at WCL within the last month. First one was in the upstairs venue. I liked the upstairs a lot because it had a much more personable, cafe feel. Yes it's a small space, with not a lot of standing room (note to those buying general admission tickets and not making table reservations, get there early to get a good spot at the bar). If you can get a table up front or a good spot at the bar you have a great view, but no matter where you are it feels like the performance is just for you. I like the feel and cleanliness of the location too. Drinks are a little pricey. I did not try the food but it looked and smelled decent enough. Extra props to the staff who did not kick us and the performers out after the show. My friend and I as well as the performers and several others hung for a good hour and a half after the show with no one moving us along or giving us dirty looks. The second show was in the downstairs. It has the same general feel but its a larger space. There is a large floor area right in front of the stage for standing (I hear the set up may change based on the show but I think this is the most common one). There are some tables in the back, then a few steps up there are more tables and the bar in back. There is also a second floor mezzanine where there are more tables (assigned seating you choose when you purchase tickets). Again it seemed like no matter where you were there was a good view and good sound. The only bad part about the downstairs is the bathrooms are a little far away, outside of the venue room and around the stairwell. Aside from that, this place is great for seeing live music! Bonus: Free parking provided by the venue!!
by Vince Greenlun on I went to Vertigo last night for my friend Doug's birthday. The party was 80's themed and we all had a few drinks at the apartment and were looking to get our dance on! So we arrived at Vertigo around 11:30 PM and waited in line for about half an hour. Once inside it was crowded, stinky, and felt like standing in a greenhouse! I paid a 5 dollar cover charge for this?! There was a super tiny stage in the corner of the super tiny dancefloor, it was surrounded by mirrors which made it look like a strippers crows nest. All the music played sounded like the top 40 with a Borat remix. I left around 1:30 to get back to my car and was glad of it. Moral of the story? If you're at a house party, with great music, food and free booze, why mess with it by going to a wannabe dive bar? Lesson learned. CONS: *Practically non-existent dancefloor, I felt like I was dancing with everyone at the bar, and thats not as hot (figuratively) as it sounds. *$5.00 cover charge for no amenities *No VIP *What was up with the music?! Bad, bad, bad sound system and a poor choice in playlists PROS: *Large indoor patio for smoking and socializing *Hidden bathroom upstairs (I assume it's for the employees) with no line, and it's much more hygenic I dont think I'll be visiting Vertigo again anytime soon
