*Disclaimer: This review if for a Friday night - Remedy. I headed to DNA Lounge with hesitation...after reading Ed M.'s and Peggy W.'s reviews, along with a bunch of others...I wasn't sure if I should be excited or not. My friend invited me to listen to DJ Colette, and that's why I was there. Having bought pre-sale tix ($10, with $3 service charge per tix), I know I would not have been there if I had to pay $20 at the door. But I do love the no dress code policy! (And if you know Teri, she likes to break it down in sneaks!) From pregnant go-go dancers, to girls humping each other on stage, to Mr. Hercules flexing his muscles or pumping up the crowd, it led to an interesting night. It wasn't that crowded, but DJ Colette had her fans. With her singing along as she DJed, she definitely stood out from other female DJs out there. DNA also had those bongo drums going on with the music, so that added a different feel to the beat. There wasn't a whole lot of room to dance on the main floor, so I headed upstairs. It was pretty empty up there, with plenty of seating if you got tired and an empty bar with no line up there too! (They also had the lounge in the upstairs corner playing hip hop. But I stayed out of there since I came to listen to deep house anyway.) At 2 am, DJ Johnny Fiasco came on and the club started pumping harder. Wow. I was impressed. More often than not, I am forced to leave the club around the 2 am mark because a) the club is closing; or b) my designated driver wants to leave. So, it was very exciting to hear damn good music come on. And boy, did he even get better and better. My designated driver was hesitant to leave because the music was just sucking us in even more. If I didn't have to get up so early, I would have closed the place down at 4 am for sure. Checking out the crowd - very mixed. From the moment I got there to the moment I left, there were people from all ethnic backgrounds. I wouldn't say Friday night's Remedy nights are anywhere close to what I would call Asian night. And thank goodness for that. And yes, those seatless toilets in the women's restrooms are a bit weird. I'm happy if there's toilet paper and soap at a club, so I guess I'm easy to please. They did start closing off the upstairs section though around the 2 am mark, so I lost my personal little dance floor. And all the internet kiosks I tried were either broken, or the screen was too hard to read. Oh well, so much for rateclubsing while I was at the club. Overall, yeah...you'll see me back there if they have DJs spinning out some serious deep house like that again. And of course, as long as the crowd stays unpretentious and a mixed group.
