by Susie S. on I tried XIV for dine LA and have also been to their "happy hour." The best thing on their happy hour is probably their burger (the full sized one). I tried both a bit of that and the sliders and the sliders are like bite sized and also easily overcooked. Everything else is amuse bouche sized. The drinks are discounted but so overpriced anyway that they become normally priced. The DineLA deal on it was pretty good, although not outstanding. Let's just say nothing blew my mind.
by Rusty Garand on Im always crying for something "new" to do in san francisco as far a night life. Vessel is the latest entry competing for your hard earned night life dollar. I like the location a lot. Union Square is basically the center of the city and always gives your night that downtown feel. I am also a sucker for going downstairs/underground to party. Its definitely an upscale venue if thats what you are looking for. They hold a maximum, they say, of 299 guests. Interesting odd number but hey, as long as you are one of the 299 you probably dont care about those stuck outside. Being an international bon vivant myself, im not afraid to pay 10 bucks for a drink. They werent playing hip hop tonight so i have to come back on a night when they are playing something besides mindless house music. The crowd was pretty sexy but a bit standoffish. Not quite as inviting as most crowds but that could have been for a number of reasons. Overall, i am optimistic about going back to this place and will gladly rate it higher if Fridays and saturdays are as cool as ive heard. ..and goodness gracious..that coat check girl was so darned sweet. NOTE to single ladies in the bay area..when it gets right down to it, all guys are suckers for a sweet girl.
