it was alright , well i was very lucky to walk out of the place in like 15 mins flat . I have been to better places in maccau and hongkong , new york city . the drinks were kinda pricy and watered down . And no tap on the upper level ? Wtf ? The DEEJAY sucked ass , that was the reason i walked out .

Daytime cafe review: I love this chic new relaxed cafe so much that I'm reluctant to write a review and get it on more people's radars! I've been here thrice in the afternoons during weekdays and weekends and it's a great, open space with no more than ten people there at a time, reading and using the free wireless. There's always a NYT or SF Chronicle on the table to read too. Service: The staff is friendly; Simone however stood out with her great service and smile. She kept my lunch tab open and later took my coffee order at the table. Generally, I order at the counter and the food and coffee are brought out to whichever table I was seated at. The staff never rushed me, though I must have been there for at least three hours reading one day. Ambiance: They put a lot of effort into creating a very cool lounge. Love the fireplace and the music is typically good - jazz or Buena Vista-esque. Food/drinks: Have had the tea, an Americano, latte, roasted vegetable and gruyere cheese tart, currants & cream scone, coffee cake and creme brulee. The latte is lovely and the house-made tarts and scones are excellent. Creme brulee was a little too custardy for me though it was freshly glazed. I've also had the goat cheese panini (good but a little heavy on the cheese for my taste) and the turkey croissant sandwich, which was delicious. Tips: They have a frequent coffee/pastry card - buy 10, get one free. And, after 4 pm, any pastries or baked goods left in the case are free. (The tarts, scones and coffee cake are all made fresh in-house and change daily.) They serve desserts until 11 pm. Sutter St can get pretty loud and there's construction going on near-by so sit at the back of the cafe if you want to get away from the street noise. This is a great space for a party - we asked and right now there is no charge to reserve the lounge at the back for up to 40 of your friends. All in all, an awesome place - if I lived in this neighborhood I'd be here all the time during the day to work on my laptop or read - as it is I'm willing to make the 25-minute walk regularly! **Update 4/10/07: I just learned that they stop serving coffee after 5 pm in a business decision that makes no sense to me.** ***Update 4/15/07: Jona, the SC Asst manager, says that all types of coffees/teas are served throughout the evening. One of the daytime staff said it was at the discretion of the bartender. That evening's bartender supplied me with a latte when asked. Seems like there may be some confusion in the ranks but as long as I get my caffeine fix, I'm happy.**
